PS: I have nothing to do with NYJC or NJC.
Well, not too sure about that because you have deliberately said 2 untruths.

1. That NYJC has beaten NJC twice ? ( which is untrue, only once this year and only in COP )
2. That NYJC takes in top 10% of JAE ( Which have been unsubstantiated and proven otherwise by forummers here)

Raw score of 6 - 0 bonus points = 6 nett, not within 10%?

You suggessting all the that got a raw score of 6 in NYJC got in without any bonus pt? Or there are no Chung Cheng school students in NYJC?

You sound very desperate to argue cases just like how you tried to did with the gauge of performance between MJC and TJC. MY DS has a raw score of 8 and nett 6 and is the top 5% of cohort (https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/edusave/edusave-scholarships-for-independent-schools-%28esis%29) as he is eligible for EEIS as stated on the letter he received together with his result slip.

So what is your evidence to say that \"The top 10% of JAE would likely be 4 pointers or less.\"? So much untruths in your statements.
I think as usual you are barking up the wrong tree.

The sentence in contention here is \"that NYJC takes in the top 10% of JAE student\". Can you prove that NYJC takes in only top 10% of JAE ?

It is not whether a 6 pointer net falls within the 10%. From past historical records, a 6 pointer will likely not fall within top 10% due to the max 4 bonus points one can receive. So thesheng99 is not wrong to say this. However, as the O levels have been harder this year ( even MOE attest to it), the grades have fallen, it is no surprise that a 6 pointer might have receive the scholarship for THIS year.

So it is pretty uncalled for and acrimonious of you to straight away jumped in and say that thsheng99 is saying untruths. But then again, that have always been your style. And we all know in this forum who is the real liar here.

Wow...I did not expect such a response but I merely stating the fact lah...NYJC is really TOP 4 jc in Singapore based on COP mah....I think its good to have competition so that everyone can improve and I like to see disruptor challenging the status quo to keep everyone on the toe. I remembered during my time, NYJC was really a very ulu jc and NJ/TJ is high up there but look what happen today. Is the rise of NYJC is due more to hype or substance (good A level results)? The fact that they are able to attract i guess the top 10% of JAE student is a commendable effort. They must be doing something correct/good to attract them.(I mean location does play a part but come on, they have been there for decades and a football field is really just a football field lei. But I super like EJC's field on rooftop, something different!)I believe that if you depend on good marketing/hype to attract people, time will expose your empty vessel, words/gossip travel fast.

I am not sure what is happening with NJC but to pin the reason to EJC operating at Sinai is not exactly correct. I dont know how many of CHS, SCGS and SNG top students go to NJ previously, I guess those top student will mainly go to RI, HCI or VJC taking into their secondary school location, SAP status etc and I doubt EJC is a serious competitor of NJC with their current infant stage (no offence to EJC). NJC is not new to competition, they have been surviving well sitting next to HCI and others like ACJC, ACSI, RI (previously at Sinai). I guess the main issue is with more school going the IP/IB route and more good students going poly, NJC is stuck in the middle, either here nor there, there are losing their niche or distinctions to attract good student. I mean if I am good I will go HCI or RI,if I am 5 - 12 pointers, I have alot more JCs or Poly to choose from. Will NJC goes down the road of TJC, I am not sure. Will they flourish again after EJC move back to Bishan, I doubt so. Will EJC suffer the same fate as NJC sitting beside a giant (RI), I hope not. Like I say, I like disruptor.

As for the end result (A level performance), without all JCs release their complete results and standard of measurement (UAP, nos of 3As, 4As etc, there is really no way of comparing, however, if you take the top 15/20 secondary school based on PSLE COP, do you think their O level performance (if those IP school also takes O level) will not follow their PSLE COP ranking? (may be not same ranking but still within top 20). Then, can we also make the same assumption on those JCs based on O level COP?

PS: I have nothing to do with NYJC or NJC.
So the claim is now - NYJC is the top non-ip JC by COP to NYJC takes in top 10% of JAE students :scratchhead:
I can see that the spin doctors are out in full force. No wonder there is a bill to be passed in Parliament against fake news.

(PS If you guys are wondering which JC my child posted to, your guesses is as good as mine. For those who have known me in other secondary sch chat in this forum. You would have guess it. It’s the JC which enjoy all day sea Breeze)

I think our dc might be in the same JC that enjoy sea breeze the entire day. She was clear and glad she made the choice despite she could have made it to top 1 choice. A lot of her peers are in the top 1 “choices” now. She enjoyed the reporting day today and commented that she is glad that she can have a life besides studying.

Looks like my DS is also in the same JC as your DCs. Nil Sine Labore
I almost fell off my chair to learn that your DS is in VJC after your ferocious fight for nyjc! Really? It's so unlike you not to share your DS day1 orientation in that forum. :heresmyfish: Smell something fishy? I have browsed the vjc forum and conclude that their pupils and parents advocate both work & play/sports and discuss nothing about other jcs. They don't even call vj a top jc when i personally think it is. I hope you will not go over and tarnish its image, as one of the readers has warned you earlier, esp if you are not even a parent there. :nailbite:

Yes, I mean those with \"raw score\" of 6.. No with bonus points No affiliation points No HMT
Otherwise your 4 pointers \"nett score\" could mean 7 - 3 = 4 nett or even 8 - 4 = 4 nett

Yes, certainly there may be a small minority with no bonus points, but there will be a greater majority that has. Are you saying that all 6 pointers in NYJC got in without bonus points, including the Chung Cheng school students that have 2 affliation point advantage.
To me, affiliation points should be excluded (other than bonus points) in order to know the \"actual\" nett score.
Latest COP for NYJC for Sci is 7. If given a choice, I don't think a raw scorer of 6 will pick NYJC as their top choice if they know for sure NY will increase 1 point from 6 to 7 this year.

This year COP for NYJC is 7-8. How would that imply that NYJC only takes in Top 10% of JAE students when the raw score could be as high as 8+4=12 ?

May I just conclude that 'self praise is an utter disgrace'. It's best to stop all the comparison and people will automatically look up to you. We have eyes and brains to see for ourselves.
A-level is a totally different ball game as JCs now comprise of pupils from both the IP and O level track with different programs and curriculum for their past 4 years. To say that the o-level performance will follow their psle cop ranking is fair. But once all pupils reach the A level stage, you can't draw a clear line in terms of performance anymore as
(1) many who can do well in o levels may not do well in A-level and
(2) there's no stats to compare results across jcs
Stating that nyjc is a top 4 jc in terms of cop is very misleading since not all IP JCs take in JAE pupils. So just stop dreaming about ranking and status.
We should just boost each other with the right spirit. SG is already a pressure cooker for students. Why add unnecessary pressure with all the speculative ranking?

I thought in the NYJC thread, you have indicated that your son is choosing NYJC ?
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=68179&start=790

So now, he is going to VJC ? So you lied again ?

You have always detested IP JC and always says that NYJC is better. Why have a sudden change of heart ?
I did not indicate that my DS's first choice was NYJC, it was his second. VJ is my alma mater, never have I once detested it. I detest the way you people try to bring superiority to IPJCs over non-IPJCs. In the end, all candidates take the A Level Exams after 2 years. I initially thought there was a low chance with 6 nett for my DS to get into VJ but was lucky that he made the risk. All the best to all DCs going through this arduous journey.

I thought I would just clarify this once and for all.

Regarding something about EEIS, that is for independent schools, ACSI or SJI. The fact that my DS was eligible for it makes him in the top 5% cohort of JAE students.

Notice that I did not post as often as I did during the O Level result release and JAE period, though I could have. Whatever it is, my DS is in VJ now and I hope he will enjoy the culture there.
