      Dh is the one handling the disposal of old laptop at home.

      I've seen him dismantling the laptop and removing what he says is the hard disk before disposing it.
      The hard disk of the laptop (looks like a \"cd\" to me :oops: ) - it shatters when he hammers it.

      Not sure about phones. They are still lying around in our home as they don't occupy much space...Double up as spare phones/alarm/radio when needed.

        Yes the disc is what contains all the data, once that is destroyed it's unlikely that people can access whatever was on your device. For mobile devices, usually a factory reset will do.

          Have a friend in the industry, we talked about this once, usually if you give to the karang guni they just sell the parts, Firstly, retrieving the data from either the parts or the whole device can be very time consuming, so people most likely will just either erase whatever is on the disc rather than looking through everything,

          Secondly, they don’t know who the device came from so unless you give them a phone or computer without even doing a factory reset, nobody is going to bother trying to dig through.

              Below doesn’t apply to laptops, but if anyone has old phones to buang, please go to Singpost and collect a recycle envelop. Singpost partner with Singtel to provide this free service. put the phone in envelop and drop it at any mailbox. I do that for my old powerbanks as well.

                  Where to Recycle E-Waste

                  Four major electronic retailers - Best Denki, Courts, Gain City and Harvey Norman - have joined the RENEW programme. RENEW bins can be found at selected stores around Singapore.

                  What to Recycle: Most electronic products, regardless of brand, measuring less than 47 cm x 12 cm (length x width) so as to fit through the deposit slot:

                  *Mobile phones, mobile phone batteries;

                  *Laptops, keyboards, modems, computer mice, docking stations, hard disk drives and printed circuit boards;

                  *DVD players, VCD players, set-top boxes, MP3 players, VCRs, remote controls and car stereos;

                  *Telephones and answering machines
                  Cables, plugs and wires

                    For old Apple devices, you can do a https://www.apple.com/sg/trade-in/ or recycle at the Apple store in Orchard.

                      Singpost has free envelopes for e-waste. You can place your phone in it and mail it to the collecting agency.
