This July, I will be enrolling my younger child in a neighbourhood primary school which is a 5 mins walk away under phase 2A(2) instead of a gep school which is a 20 mins bus journey away. If she opt for the gep school, the bus will pick her up at around 6.15 am which means she need to wake up around 5.45 am.

For the neighbourhood school, she can wake up at 7 am as she only needs to reach school by 7.45 am.

Didn't know schools starts 7.45am. My impression is Spore schools starts at 7.30am. My eyes open liao.

Good to start a young child with sufficient rests & not hv to pull them up at an unearthly hour.

I am looking at Sengkang Green. It’s a very new school and their first PSLE batch will be this year.

Esteema, some neighborhood schools are acceding to parents’ requests for later start times. One other school that starts at 8am is Cantonment Primary.

I really pity those kids who live far away and need to cut short their sleep for the school bus.

My DS is the rare one with no problem. Sleep at 8pm, wake up at 7am is fine with him, he’s an early riser anyway and bounces out of bed ready to “attack” the day. I send him to school & reach office at 7.30am, finish my day early too. But yes, I feel sad for the kids who lack sleep and can’t absorb well in school as a result. There are some kids whose parents pack back-to-back after-school tuition 3-5pm and 5-7pm. By the time they finish their day, I’m sure they just collapse into bed. (Or the younger ones…often keep themselves awake & resist bed, just for some rare play time)

Wow! I love your boy alr - ready to \"attack\" the day sounds like an eager beaver ready to experience life! Good for him.

“Elementary School Homework Probably Isn’t Good For Kids.

A powerful combination of superstition and questionable research ensures young kids hit the books instead of just, you know, reading them.”
