Those who score 100 for math will get a T-score of 91.

Those who score 100 for science (near impossible) will only get a T-score of 77.5

100 in English (another impossible case) the T-score will be 74.5

100 in Chinese (for PRC) the T-score will be 72.

I hope you will now understand why I have made so much noise regarding the Math paper. There will be at least 50 pupils out there who get 100 for math, enjoying a disproportionate jump in their T-score.

Anyway, MOE will sure have to moderate the marks. Otherwise the top student will have an aggregate T-score of over 300 (a new record)

Max t-score for each subject is 75. Max aggregate is 300.

Perhaps atutor trying to mean as a percentage? like 91% worth of 75. just guessing.

Oh, how is it accurate? But then wouldn't the fixed values in the equation only know in moe anyway?

basically the formula is known la......just that each year the mean and SD is different...but i guess should not be very far from year to year...i used my kid's school's provided data (mean & SD) to simulate the t-score

but anyway, it just only confirms the formula in the spreadsheet is correctly entered....u are right that only MOE knows the value every year

If you read that article, there is no such thing as max score of 300. The score depends on how the cohort did during each year.

I took the worksheet and put in extreme numbers and the t-score are totally absurd

eg raw score = max score = average score and SD = 0.00001, the max t-score for each subject is 50, aggregate is 200 (just enough to make it to express stream....)

do i miss out something ?

however in real life, given there are high and low scores and hence there are averages and SD, the individual t-score tend to peak at 75 and hence the total tend to peak at 300...perhaps this is how the misconception arise or is the formula flawed ?

who invented it ? plus they must draw the bell curve and chop off the top 10% and mark it as 250 and above

in any case the top score of each year is the best, no matter what is the number, since it is a placement exam, as long as you are ahead in the queue to pick your dream school, you are better than those behind u
