Hi anniekiasung,Hi circle,
Yeah,I spotted this mistake too when I was going thru' the maths papers with my girl last week.I just told my DD the answer is 17 and I explained to her that the word \"SHE\" should be referring to Su ling instead of her sister.
At least you have explained to your girl before the SA, I only spotted this after her Math SA1. And this was not the 1st time I had told my child the answer from the teacher is incorrect. I am only afraid if this continue, they will be confused with parent and teachers' teaching. They are only children. -

Hi anniekiasung,
Hi mvelle09,
My girl is in MT1A. She told me, so far, there is no streaming for MT leh!
Why is IE MT belongs to the weaker students? blur :? My DD also :? She said their spelling lists should also be the same.
Other parents from P3 told me that there will be 2 classes for higher MT in P2 and the streaming will base on the year end P1 results. They also told me there will be an option to take Malay Language as well.
MT teacher said that they grouped kids that are from non-Chinese speaking family / non-chinese together to facilitate teaching. She is using both English and Chinese during lessons. Btw, my girl is Non-Chinese (Indian/Chinese) so placed in class 1E. -

Hi Star2003;Hi
I'm new in this forum. My dd is in 1H & I'm happy to to know more parents at DLS.
During Parents-Teacher meeting, the MT teacher told me they streamed the students in different classes for MT at the beginning of the year. IH is supposed to have higher level of chinese, thus, a few kids from IE join the 1H class during MT. But not so sure about other classes.
Welcome to KSP!
Anyway, my ds is in the same class for MT as yr dd (1H) & he is fm 1E.
However, my ds does not speak Chinese at all to any of us in the family;
unless forced to la. And I can't really guide him in MT as I myself am not
educated in chinese but I am a true-blue Chinese. And his 1H MT teacher told me tat my ds DOES NOT like Chinese characters; but ok with HYPY.
So, when they go to upper pri, it will be quite difficult :?: .
And really, I am surprised they streamed my ds to 1H when he is actually
only so-so in MT (my assessment la). My guess is its still quite early for
the teachers to assess as I strongly believe 0.5 years education can't tell anything yet. -
Hi circle,
Yeah, this is not the first time I spotted it too.But I guess sometimes teachers do make mistakes and I think its not easy for the teachers to handle a class of 30 students. That is why I went thru' all the corrections with my DD before her exams. Beside that, my dd does not have any tuition or enrichment classes and I prefer her to learn in school on her own with a little help from me.
Hi mvelle09,
Oh I see, I think I know who your DD is now. Heard from my girl she is a smart kid who always score full marks. :celebrate: -
Hello Star2003, welcome to KSP's DSL family.
anniekiasung, so far she is coping well and enjoy schooling.
Heard that from 2012, all primary schools will conduct MT entry test to stream kids into respective classses. It will be tough and stressful to both parents and children but Hurray !!!! to Chinese class tuition centers.

Hi mvelle09 & baby2momma
Nice to "meet" you!
My girl told me 2 kids join them during MT class and I was quite puzzled, thus, asked the MT teacher during the Parents/Teacher meeting. Then, she explained that there were streamed into different classes based on their level. I was quite surprised.
The kids should have now finished learning the HYPY & the teachers are going pretty fast into the chinese characters now. But frankly speaking, the current tingxie list is pretty simple compared to my girl’s K2 list. But I guess, the level of difficulty will increase very fast soon. It seems that the teacher increased the speed in the last couple of weeks prior to the exam.
Another thing about the Maths question about Si Ling & her sis, my daughter gave the correct ans "17" and her teacher marked it right!
I think the maths teacher from the other class must have made a mistake.
Today, the Maths Teacher went through the exam questions with the kids and told them the correct answer. My girl told me she went through question by question, didn’t mange to finish to go through all, and I suppose, will continue again next week. I felt it was very good of the teacher to go through all the questions again and let the kids learn their mistakes.
My girl told me there was a question "1 more than 19 is ___ tens.". The teacher asked those kids who got it wrong to stand up and almost the whole class stood up 'cos the kids are not familiar with "ones" & "tens" yet. Furthermore, not tested in mock test or unit test. The teacher jokingly told them they had been "tricked"! My girl was not sure of the answer but she made a guess and got it correct, pretty lucky.
Highest Mark for the maths exam in 1H is 97. -
It is very nice and important that teachers make effort to go thru all exams questions with kids. Kids tend to believe and listen to teachers more than parents. I hope my dd’s teacher will do the same. to me, exam marks are just indicators of performance, importantly kids must understand the concepts and y they didn’t get the questions right. Their innocent interpretation of questions may shock you.

yes, the process of learning is more important. Learn the mistakes and understand the concepts, thereafter, not to repeat the mistakes. But then, mistakes are repeated often, sigh…

Hi mommies,
I heard of a bad news from my cell group friends last night.
It makes my heart hurts when I learnt that there was a P4 boy fell to his death from his 15 storey home. I can’t imagine how devastated his parents will be and I pray that God will give his family, relatives, friends and teachers the strength to deal with his death. I am so sad. -
I feel very bad, stress & scare also. I received 2 bad news today. The first one is my son (P1) did badly in his Math SA -1 and the second bad news is about the P4 boy. What happen to our kids now? it is really the parents to be blame? i mean i myself to be blame? should i let go ?
