I stay at Simei and I’m thinking to register for

1. Chongzheng (1-2km)
2. Raffles (>2km)

In dilemma which one should I choose. From history, balloting will be required for both school. I’m thinking to choose St. Anthony Canossian or Changkat as my back up for Phase 2C supplementary. Any kind soul can advise?

you should consider alternative.

ChongZheng usually balloting within 1-2km, this year 13 more applicant in phase 1 than last year. it looks like very close for a balloting or full within 1km. even if 1-2km ballot, the odd may not be favourable.

as for RGPS, this year phase 1 is lesser than last year. but for more than 2km folks, you are facing about 2 applicants to 1 vacancy odds.

Changkat is safe for 2Cs and st anthony canossian has 60 more places so should be fine as well.

The places that you considered are abit every where so maybe you can consider CHIJ katong, GMPS, and haig girls.
Chances of getting into either Kellock or OLQP are higher than Henry Park which is in the red for balloting within 1km for SC.

Thanks for that input. So it is the correct way to read the table? Red for previous years high chance of ballot (wd say definite) and its actually “safer” to go for a green over subscription risk school thou outside of 2km vs red within 1km?

I try to be specific to your case.
I presume you are within 1km of HPPS and >2km of Kellock and OLQP

For Kellock and OLQP, for now 2C should be safe for >2km.
For HPPS - it looks likely to have a range of 1.5-2 applicants per vacancy at 2C - will you be able to bear with this risk? - its important you set a threshold.

For 2Cs - OLQP still look okie while Kellock will be very near to full point (may need balloting)

Say if you don't want balloting at all cost, then choose between Kellock and OLQP

If you can bear with the risk and HPPS is first choice, set a risk threshold (how many applicants versus vacancies) and if the threshold is breached, move on to your second choice within 2C phase.

Backup choice for 2Cs should be OLQP safer

hope its clear enough, we need the phase 2A and 2B phase to be over to have a better picture.

If you have choices under 2A or 2B, do consider.
Thanks that is very useful to put in perspective. I was really trying to figure out what are the usual number vs ballot. At end of day I would like to have the convenience of a nearby sch n hpps is the only school within 1km. Feels like a “waste” to not even try but if I try and lose the chance for OLQP or Kellock at 2cs it probably means a “not great school” as backup at end wherever it may be.
I would figure my threshold would be probably 30 applicants for 20 spaces?

I can go for 2a2 in Gongshang in tampines which is a good school but not ideal cuz I have to move and work for both me n hubs is far. (We are locked in to current rental till 2h2019 for perspective... n obviously didn’t do enough planning). Do intend to apply but also considering I would physically need to fly between the two locations for withdrawal n application!

Thanks all who have helped weigh in on this. Kicking myself for poor planning....

Hi, I am an old girl of MGS Primary (Blackmores) and am likely to get in at phase 2A(2). But it's quite a distance from my place. School bus picks up at 620am for my area. However, I am also keen in Alexandra Primary School which is within 1km from my place. Would appreciate any advice as to which school to go for as I am now in dilemma. And what are my chances. Thanks in advance!! :thankyou:

6:20am is quite ok, rt?
I'd think having your daughter to go in to your alma mater would be a big plus.
Additionally, the affiliation to MGS when she is choosing sec schools in 6 year's time is another bonus.

looking at balloting history of MGS at BT...there is no balloting for phase 2A2 all these years, not even in 2006 (dragon year for year 2000). so it should be safe to register your daughter in your former school. affiliation will help a lot especially with the new AL grading system. it's like having a safety net. waking up at 6am for the school bus to reach at 620am is not that bad.
do consider.

We stay within 1km from Catholic High. Any advice or recommendations for schools in Ang Mo Kio? There’s no discussion and updates in the Ang Mo Kio school thread.

CHS should be under Bishan thread. Tough fight will start at Phase 2A.

if you choose HPPS, backup will be OLQP (kellock maybe if still have slot) in 2Cs. I try to update my analysis after 2A1 to see if anything change. remind me if you dont see it over the weekend.

do not underestimate the balloting thingy. whether its 30 to 20 or 31 to 30 - feel abit the same somehow, perhaps without manual voting, it's less stressful. You must be truthful to yourself with regards to the risk threshold and both parents must agree before hand. plan and prepare, usually last minute hearsay or change of thoughts create anxiety and confusion.

Thks, been all good advise above.

Looks like this year lot of parents are planning of securing a place 1st in earlier phase (but the sch is far from home) then monitor, withdraw and reapply in their preferred sch of choice (which is nearer to home). Hope the govt would be able to come up with a solution so we need not "play such games" for such cases (have priority in earlier phase in schs far far away but schs nearer to home all high% need to ballot.

Any idea when will the p1 2018 sch balloting history (the page with the graph) be out for phase 1 analysis? So that we can view how many vacancies and % left after phase 1. (Not the MOE site one).

And 2017 and 2018 difference in the number registrations for each phases?

I stay at Simei but work around Clementi area. Therefore I’m thinking whether to choose a school near my house or should try a more popular school but further away. I need to travel to the west everyday anyway. I have another younger girl, that’s why I’m thinking will I have a better chance if I choose a girls school since I have two daughters only at home. Seems like girls school is more likely to get than co-ed school?

Among the school listed, which one will be a better school?
Chongzheng, Raffles, Changkat, St Anthony Canossian, CHIJ Katong, Haigs Girls, GMPS

The schools that are within 1km from my house are Angsana and East Spring which I’m not very keen.

1-2km I have Gongshang, Chongzheng, Changkat, Poi Ching, Yumin

need your advise here. I have 1 boy (SC) who is only eligible under phase 2c . no school within 1km and the school within 1-2km zone is Hong Wen, Kong Hwa, GMPS, Canossa and Bendeemer.

HW and KH are out under phase 2C for 1-2km. Remaining ones are GMPS, Canossa and Bendeemer. I am still indecisive between Canossa and GMPS. I like Canossa for its small size but wonder how come the school seems rather unpopular compared to GMPS? Any kind soul for some advise pls?

Seems like you are identifying some schools in the East. Apart from GMPS, the others have no affliation. Another school you may wish to consider is St Stephen’s in 2C. It has secondary affiliation to two secondary schools and seems safe in 2C.
