Does a withdrawal take place only when a phase remains open or can it also take place when the window period for registration is closed?

I am trying to assess my chances of balloting success.

Basically ,1 has only 1 shot at Phase 2B. Usually withdrawals take place at prior phases not this phase. E.g. Ex student parent in phase 2A2 to secure a place first albeit far away. Then 2B secure the most desired school nearest to residence, so withdrawing from the phase 2A2 place will free up 1 slot to trickle down to phase 2B and 2C. Too late to withdraw from phase 2B now too

You can withdraw from the P2B school when P2C registration is still ongoing. However, if you eventually do not get into your P2C school, you cannot go back to the school which you previously registered at earlier phases to reclaim your spot.

Any one for RVPS? What’s your take:

Daddy is not comfortable that the school will be affect by the demolition and reconstruction of condo next to the school on top of the current condo construction in front of the school. Noise, dust and mozzie. But my boy wants rvps because his friends are there.

What are your alternatives? It’s hard to make a choice in isolation.

The presence of familiar friends will help him settle in, that is true. But from my experience, kids at that age will make new friends quite quickly. There is zero guarantee his old friends will be allocated same P1 class as him anyway.

I do think that this scenario though hypothetically possible is very unlikely for Phase 2B onwards. These are the phases where one gets the child in without any current or previous connection to the school. Tactic is to use earlier phases to first get an assured place before using phases 2B onwards to go for the one which one truly desires. E.g. I register son at my old school, which is a quite renowned school, or I get place under phase 1 where elder sibling is studying at. But for whatever reasons, the school is not my first choice but what I can only enter my son into as I do not have any prior or existing relations with the school.

From phase 2B onwards, I can enter son into my first choice school as it is only from this phase that people without connections can start registering, I got option of withdrawing to go there, as long as I am sure it is 100%. But phase 2B is the first phase where one can start doing this and I don't see how if you had reasoned and thought and planned to secure a Phase 2B place will give that up for another 2 weeks of sleepless nights and greater stress with greater potential disappointment. Kinda like made wedding plans and bought house and invited everyone for wedding dinner only to turn a run away bride at the altar, realising that this is not your one true love scenario.

Typically i would empower the child and let him make his own decisions with the parents supporting his decision.

The dust, noise and and all will affect the school environment, then explain to your child and explore other alternatives.

If you are within 1km of the two ACS or SJI you can consider these schools. Even SJI 1-2km may be safe.

The most likely phase someone will give up is probably phase 2A as it tends to be further from home. But as I am updating the table and analysis, I also realized that throughout all the phases, there were withdrawals at each phase. I saw already some withdrawal, potentially in school whereby the child went through by way of a balloting in the earlier phase then proceed to give it up for a later phase.

                        Technically speaking, someone can:
                        - secure phase 1 and give it up and take up 2A1
                        - and then give up the 2A1 for a spot in 2A2 - and then further give up the 2A2 for 2B
                        - and also then proceed to give up the 2B for 2C spot
                        - and also give up the 2C spot to go for 2Cs
                        - and finally give up the 2Cs and let MOE decide which school their kids can go to.

It’s the case of - “if you only have 1 choice, your plan is clear, it’s only when you have tons and tons of options and choices, that become complex”
