2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
-
It’s plain English - written on a website.
Of cos must interpret la.
Unless you are 100% sure, I don’t see why when priority was not used but 30 months is required.
Quote from moe website again:
Do parents need to seek MOE’s approval before the family moves to another address without our child being transferred to another school?
Answer:
Parents do not need to seek MOE’s approval to change their residential address.
However, if a child gains priority admission under the home-school distance categories and is subsequently found to have not fulfilled the condition that the child resides at address used for registration for at least 30 months from the commencement of the P1 Registration Exercise on 28 June 2018, MOE reserves the right to transfer the child out of the school to another school with vacancies.weixiang_06:

Wait.
My understanding is:
If there was priority because of the address, then the 30 months is required.
But since numbers applied was less than available vacancies, all went in and no priority was used in any filter.
I think we must call moe on this.
The distinction is not about balloting it’s about if the distance priority was used.
Eg:
20-5-5 for 20 vacancies
All 1km gets in because of priority thus 30 months is required. (But no balloting for 1km also)
5-0-5 for 20 vacancies.
All gets in.
No priority was used.
No need 30 months.
(No balloting also)
No interpretation of the 30 months rule.
What ever it is based on your registration forms at the point of application for phase 2b, the address will hold for 30 months. Cos at the point of submission of form, there is a form which the officials will have to indicate your address and its distance from the school.
No need to debate whether u got in via distance or not. If you want debate, you should have put a distance of >2km.
Period. -
Weixiang, I really do think Skii’s point is valid. It’s not “suka suka” interpret. It’s based on logic and deduction, and absolutely fair. So in that parents case, I believe he/she can change address within 30 months. I’m sure MOE can clarify.

Hi Twincam
I think you should call MOE to clarify. It is not definitely clear that Selection of PV was based on distance. Even if it was, it is the school’s choice and not MOE’s choice.

skii is correct based on last year's understanding.
That said, just quote the school and easier to interpret. -
Thanks everyone for advice.
Unless they specifically mention different rules for different phases, my interpretation of moe website is similar to skii. If I didn’t secure the place based on distance priority but purely available places more than applications regardless of distance, the 30m rule should not apply.
I don’t think they expect parent registering their child under 2C(S) staying within 1km to fulfil the 30m rule when the school is not even full at the end of the whole registration.
However, I’m unsure whether does the PV selection criteria matter.
Shall check with MOE directly. -

Just to add on to this onemap checks,
Are they using OneMap to check th distance ? What if the OneMap is done ?Orb:
You cant fault the parents for being punctual right? If the parent steps in at 4.29pm, the parent would still need to complete the application form and then submit it to the admin staff.
Then there are a number of things the admin staff needs to do per registrant.
1. Checking of documents against original copies.
2. Grouping of the registratrant in distance category
3. Key in data to the MOE database.
No way all these can be done in a minute.
the school already had a list of address hardcopy and softcopy (not sure TOP address)
and which \"distance\" you belong already known
keying the data to MOE normally done later or concurrently depend on manpower
they more focus on checking and verifying the documents. -
Better to call, then email, to have a black and white answer from their reply.
Share the reply too - I’m interested to know the official answer. Hee:)Twincam:

selection of PV is based on what the parents can help in the school.Hi Twincam

i once met a mum who stayed in bukit Panjang when i did PV (she definitely stays more than 2km away).
parents must be aware completion of PV hours and getting that letter to register in phase 2B is NO guarantee. -
Some schools dun even admit you on PV scheme if you stay >1km.

it all depends on what the school is expecting from parents.
some schools take in many PVs and we all know getting that letter is no guarantee into the school despite completing 40-80 hours of voluntary work. if the schools are very popular and balloting is required for those staying less than 1km, they won't even consider your application if you stay 1-2km away.
