And precisely why a real time system isn't the ideal solution.janet88:
It may or may not move in your favor. Some may withdraw fr one school to try in another school, thinking better chance, but what if there are too many with the same thinking then the numbers will be skewed in the other direction suddenly? I will get a heart attack.
phase 2C is a 'heart attack' phase annually.
some who have already registered in 2A but monitor vacancies in 2C. just when they think all is fine and withdraw, the numbers suddenly shoot up and they are left with nothing. I would advise not to attempt this move, especially this year.
2moro being the last day is anything's guess.
Once people start to monitor it like stock exchange, except to see a lot of withdraw / enrollment (perhaps hourly movement even), causing complication and large scale disruption to a lot of best laid plans.
Sometimes, providing imperfect information may lead to a better outcome for most people.
there is no perfect system, real time data, though transparent, would create another level of KSism and picking to the very last minute and second. -

Real time system not very ex la nowdays and it doesn't have to be that sophisticated. You can also ask server side for extra bandwidth during those few days. I guarantee the social cost for such a system for these few days is lower than having none. Just imagine the number of parents that took leave for 2B, 2C and 2CS. So many manhours lostseriallain85:
I don't understand what the purpose of going online is. When I saw the online registration announcement, in my mind I was still thinking. Wow, dont have to run around anymore. Alas, I was too naive. I kinda feel sorry for parents that still have to chiong down to site to get the real time figures. How come 2018 already still cant just click a website and see the figures for under1km/1-2/above2km. Its a really poor use of technology. Worse still, the school admins paid by taxpayers, acting so high and mighty and not revealing numbers. Where's the transparency in that? Very jialat.
The cost of developing a real time system is high... and you only use it a couple of days a year (and for some, a couple of days in a lifetime). I think if MOE can breakdown the existing website (https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies) by distances, that's more than good enough for most.
Also, it's the other way round - the school admins aren't acting high and mighty, but the taxpayers are making the unnecessary demands. We should understand that if the admin reveal the numbers, it's out of goodwill; if they don't... well, nothing wrong with that because they don't have to.
What if the school admin tells person A got no lots left for under 1KM but tells person B that there is space left for under 1KM? Having no transparency is a very dangerous situation. Not every school has a white board showing the numbers so why the difference in standards? Its rather unusual -

Its rather unusual
On the practical side of stuff, when someone in the queue, that person may not have registered. So when the admin is registering for the person, they still need to validate the particulars and also confirm the distance, thereafter after completion, key into the system. Some schools has people withdrawing and applying at the last hour or 30 mins or less, even if MOE has that real time system, there is some obvious time lag in the keying in and and updating the system and allowing people for informed decision.
One thing i am very sure, you can have a new system, and some people will play and plan the game better than others.
After looking though this registration exercise since 2009, i can safely conclude that if you want to play the game your way, settle it before 2C starts. -

revils_ling, thank you very much for the kind info. Appreciate it.
1) Yes, only a confirmation screen, and no email received.retrobuzz:
Hi Parents
Good afternoon! Just a quick check with other parents who had also registered their kids for P1 online...
1) Do you receive a confirmation email after registration? For me, I did not. The only message i receive is at the end screen of the online registration page saying \"Your registration has been submitted\" (text in green). Is that all?
2) I did not encounter any prompt to upload any scanned documents (such as NRIC, birth certs etc) during the online registration process. Is that the same thing with those who registered online too? I heard one must present all these documents when registering in person at the school itself.
Pls let me know if I have missed anything. Thank you very much and have a good day ahead!
2) Only need to submit/present original documents at the school after receiving confirmation SMS/letter of successful/unsuccessful enrolment at the end of the phase (2C/2CS). Further details will be provided by the school in the confirmation SMS/letter. -

Parents who had already secured a seat for their children should just stay with their option. hope all parents in P2C manage to get their desired school for the kids. praying hard.. :xedfingers:Viiv:
