2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake

Yes. The school updates the statistics at the end of each day during the registration period for the different phases. There is a detailed breakdown of the number of applicants within each category, <1km, 1-2km and >2km. This is what I have noticed for the past many years. So do check the school website for the statistics at the end of each day during the registration period.
Taonan didn't share the breakdown either. It was understood that all applicants are <1km. Probably 1-2 sotongs >1km. You can see from their past years breakdown in their school website, and you'll get what I mean.pooh2:
I’m still trying to reconcile how a school like Temasek can be so much more over subscribed compared to Tao Nan. Wondering if the school’s level of transparency is a key factor - meaning Tao Nan shared the breakdown of number of SCs<1km, bet 1-2km etc. and hence many parents went elsewhere when they knew they had no chance. Temasek on the other hand has refused to share the breakdown from day 1. Even after the balloting list from MOE has been published (I know cos I called).
Any parent who tried at Tao Nan who can verify the above? -

I think it is also due to the fact that there are only a handful of schools in Marine Parade area, Tao nan and Ngee Ann being the 2 most popular schools around there, both c0-ed and are within walking distance. I think many rather play it safe and go straight for Ngee Ann, rather than risk balloting at Tao nan cos If they fail to get into these 2 schools at Phase 2C, they will likely have to venture further to the schools in Bedok or Eunos. Also, not forgetting Ngee Ann Primary-secondary affiliation.I’m still trying to reconcile how a school like Temasek can be so much more over subscribed compared to Tao Nan. Temasek is very much over-subscribed because there are other still schools in Bedok with vacancies at Phase 2C suppl. If parents do not have a preferred (2nd choice)school after Temasek Primary, they will take their chance at the balloting. -

Its also because its Dragon year and the “Take Up Rate” (TUR) has increased in earlier phases leaving lesser vacancies coupled with the fact that there are more dragon babies born. This led to the intense competition. School that didnt need to ballot in 2C need to ballot (St Gabriel’s, CHIJ Kellock, Haig Girls), while some popular schools in 2CS saw their vacancies reduced significantly. (Marymount, CHIJ Katong, St Stephen’s).

It’ll be another round of frantic scrambling here and there on the last day of 2CS for some of these parents. -

some parents are going for safer schools than risk balloting. tao nan is known to have balloting within 1km over the years. at 2C, many would prefer to register and get it done and over with than being balloted out and have to go for 2CS

Yeah, Haig Girls and Katong Convent typically go into 2C suppl every year... A good backup choice for many if they fail to get a place in 2C. But this year, Haig girls is oversubscribed and KC has only less than 10 seats left for 2C suppl.

I wonder what will be left for Phase 3..I think the foreigners should be very worried now. -

Those who are trying their luck at Taonan and Ngee Ann probably have Tanjong Katong Primary as a backup. Looking at the statistics, TKPS has 50+ vacancies left. I think it is safe to take a shot at balloting especially since the odds are quite good with TNS (55 vs 44 seats) and NAPS (98 vs 75 seats). Personally, I will take the risk.

Those who are awaiting the balloting results, I know it’s hard but try not to let the suspense affect your family time this weekend. Best not to let your child see that you are so stressed & worried over this.
Two years ago, DH and I made a conscious decision not to trouble our child with P1 registration matters. Even up till the day of balloting, we just bore the stress secretly between ourselves as husband & wife.
Only when the final balloting result was confirmed, then we went home and told the kid he was going to xyz school.
The reason was, if he was balloted out, and went to the 2CS school, we didn’t want him to start school with any preconceived notion that he didn’t get the “best” choice, so he had to go to a “bad” school.
Conversely, if he was balloted in, we also didn’t want him to start school with any preconceived notion that he got into a “popular” school & that it was worth boasting of. To this day, I’m glad he still has zero concept of what’s branded or non-branded schools. -

Anyone who withdrew in earlier phases like phase 1/2A/2B and managed to apply a sch nearer home at 2C? Pls share your experiences:
- U successfully guaranteed a place? Or
- Awaiting balloting results?
Just to share, we aborted our plan due to the uncertainty in the last 2hrs from 2.30 to 4.30pm. Sure enough, 11 SC walked in the last 2hrs and my choice school is currently in a balloting situation (At closing time we still had no idea then).
Thank u Zac’s mum for the reminder to all the parents here. My girl was aware what happened. She cried saying then she come home so late. Broke my heart seeing her cried. -
Agree that we shouldn’t let anxiety affect us… however really quite tough. Cos really stressful to wait for the result…
