Secondary School Science Guide Books

Hope this is a duplicating topic, as I noticed that the other thread on Science Guide Books centers on PSLE.

Maybe we can have a thread on secondary school science books too?

My son is taking his O-Levels this year. He is taking triple science, but his grades for the three subjects have been poor.

Other than TYS, anyone has any recommendations on other science reference books?

A few recommendations:


1)Smashing Exams.
Teachers in some schools such as Chung Cheng High are using them too.

2) Longman
An established brand.

3) TYS
The good old TYS! Get your child to do, redo, and then redo the qns!

For TYS, is it just an assessment book with questions, or does it have notes that explain the theory and concepts too?


I tend to associate guide books as being those with notes/explanations, while assessment books would be those that contain only questions and no notes.

Hmm… Just a side-thought.


When buying secondary school assessment books, try to avoid those from SAP. The TYS published by this company is very poorly compiled. Wrong answers, poor segregation of questions, etc. But just my opinion.

TYS actually stands for \"Ten Year Series\". It's kind of a compilation of the actual O-Level / A-Level questions over the last 10 years.

Hence, it's not a guide book with notes and explanations.

The more highly recommended ones that I can think of are those from Redspot & Smashing Exams.

For Physcis, i would recommend "O level Physics Structured Questions & Misconceptions" and "1001 Physics MCQ for O level". Both books from longman. They are used by Raffles and Chinese High.
