Summer tan:
Milk refers to cow's milk. Milk products are generally harder for the body to digest and does not work out well for people with a weaker stomach. Milk seems to cause DS to start producing a lot of mucus resulting in cough. So we cut out cheese and milk to almost 99%. DS eats ice cream but soya based ones.slmkhoo:
Just something to think about - if you plan to start excluding things from your child's diet, do it one at a time, maybe for a couple of weeks. If you exclude lots of things at once and you see improvement, you won't know what caused the change. It will be easier to maintain a diet with a few exclusions than if you exclude a large no. of things because you don't know which ones actually trigger negative effects.
Thanks simkhoo for the reminder ya.
fifyeo, I'm puzzled. Why onion and garlic too? As for milk, so soy milk?
For people who practise meditation (in yoga, or monks...), garlic and onions are to be excluded from their diet. You can goggle on this. Anyway, we all know that garlic and onions also produce a lot of wind in the stomach, so again it's not good for people with a weak stomach as well.
DS has a weak stomach so I try to exclude these from DS's diet. -

You can try fish oil first. I think you can see a difference. I felt it after DS took it for about 2 weeks. But you have to check out the % of the components in all the different brands. You might want to goggle on fish oils and it's effects on ADHD kids. -
These days I make fresh Soya milk for DS.
You can buy Rice milk from the supermarket. We stock on that at home too. -

Hi, any recommendation of a dietitian in singapore that is not too costly? I’m thinking of changing my son’s diet, giving him supplements. I’ve read from different sources about certain supplements including fish oil, zinc etc but am worried that I give my child the wrong dosage.
Since I’m here, may I know if cod liver oil or fish oil is more effective? Which brand do you recommend? GNC sells child life cod liver oil but it’s $55 whereas online store is selling at around $30 after shipping charges. -
have anyone tried include lecithin in the diet of your adhd kids?

You can consider seeing Poon Siew Win at Mind Matters (http://www.mmpp.com.sg/). Friend's colleague recommended her. -
Hi mummies,
Need some support & advices here. My son is P2 this yr & his teachers had feedback that he is too active & keep walking in the class. I had known that he has been a very active child since young ,as his preschool teacher aso feedback his attention span is very short, but tot that was q normal for a young kid then.
But nowadays the feedback from his pr sch teacher is getting more & seems like they are hinting to me that he may b ADHD but they just did not say it out.
And worse is my boy will rebuke his teacher when they ask him why he keep walking, he just answer ’ becos everybody says i’m active what ! ‘. Seems like he himself had started to label himself as active since everyone keep saying it. When i ask him why he can’t stop walking he just said ’ I don’t know, I cannot control.’
It hurts me to see him like this, as if everybody despise him & teacher is biased on him as well. He became more bad-tempered & rebellious & start to talk back.
So I decided to bring him for an assessment, now still waiting for the 1st appointment.
Understand that sweet stuff is not good for hyperactive kids, but my boy is like a sweet craze! His fav food are all sweety stuff. So now really hv to limit all these sugary stuff but i know if i stop completely, it will kill him! (as he’s just too used to it). So anyone know where can i get healthy snacks in replacememt for the sweet stuff ? Is organic food ok? -
I have friends who do not allow their children to take sweets or sweet foods as they observed that their kids seem to be more active after sweets or sweet foods.
I also have friends whose children become more focused after taking fish oils. They maintain their children’s attention span by giving them the fish oils before class and before tuition. -
Hi
Is there any recommended math tutor at the west that can work well with ADHD P5 boy .

Debunking myths about ADHD in children
[quote]SINGAPORE — A typical three-year-old toddler has an attention span of about eight to 10 minutes, even though parents and teachers often expect their children to concentrate on work for up to half an hour at a time.
This is one of the misconceptions regarding child inattention that Dr Tammi Quek hopes to address this Saturday at a public symposium on understanding children’s wellness needs.
Inattention — a child’s inability to focus on one particular task for a certain period of time — is one of the most common observations picked up by teachers and parents as a “problem” in schools and at home.

My 9yo DD has been diagnosed with ADHD (combined - inattentive type) and possibly auditory processing disorder (waiting for testing in Nov).
She hasn’t been doing well in school…I hope to learn and share with other parents who have special needs children.
Any forum / online support group I can join? -
