Zappy:
For your schools that give award to Top 3 or Top 5, at both individual P5 classes, as well as at overall cohort level, do they also give $, trophy or give on-paper only ?Bochapmum3:
Any schools still give out academic awards to say top 3 or 5 in the class? Can share what’s the total % score to get such awards in your school for P5? >90% or >95% etc..
Yes for your first question.
For the total %, that would differ for every class, eg. GEP vs mainstream classes.
Eg. the highest mark for one class may not make the top 5 in another different class
How about character award, got give $ ? -
Last time they used to give cash. I still have the old POSB check for $20 from my P1 top scorer award… Lol.
-
Trophies for most of the awards.
Vouchers for some awards.
But all awards come with a cert. -

For P6 I would recommend 1on1 tuition or maybe just a small group of 2 or 3 children. You need to focus on his weak areas which a tuition centre may not do, especially the more \"elite\" ones which will be focussing on speed and perfect marks by this stage not those who are struggling.deepacn1980:
I had private tutors for Maths and Science in 2018 - P5, but my son scored poorly in both Subjects and I stay near yew tee. Can someone suggest tutors or tution centres near my place. I found mindstretcher. I hve enrolled him for English there. For maths and science can someone suggest please. Next year P6 - PSLE. How is mindstretcher for maths and science.
Hi, in our top classes, we still hear of a quarter of the children going for MindStretcher SC tuition, though I've not seen their materials... Jmo, SC & MA tuitions work better when there's individual attention. You may wanna consider both 1-to-1 & group?... Before jumping into a hasty decision, however, do analyse your child's weaknesses (concept, application...) -
Noted thanks.

So good got trophies. My DD school top 3 for each class, best in subject for each level, all awarded with certs and popular vouchers.Trophies for most of the awards.
Vouchers for some awards.

peasants:
Ya, I agree. I personally feel that having the trophy means more than just giving vouchers or cash, even though the monetary value may be lower.

But it is not easy to find good tutors especially when time is tight. Please monitor the situation closely on the quality of the tuition and if it suits your child. Encourage your child to approach his/ her school teachers for help.sky minecrafter:

Hi,
Do u recommend to start going through P6 topics or go through P5 topics during the holidays to close any gaps? The runway to PSLE is short. -

P6 topics, you need time to internalise them & relate them to other topics already learnt, plus they form the bulk to be tested in the national exam.
