JC or Poly?

Today, with poly courses COP going as low as 7, I don’t think many people can reasonably claim that JC people still has that elitist vibe.

Poly COP is 5 subjects. JC is 6 subjects.

Alot of my friend's child result is able to get into JC but chosen to go poly.

I’m aware that poly is based on L1R2B2 while JC is L1R5.

With a COP as low as 7 (or in the single digit), everyone in those poly courses would definitely have a L1R5 score of sub-15, ie everyone is eligible for JC but decided on the poly route instead.

I think it’s due to the difference in COP in the past. As per earlier comments, in the past, 6-10 pointers opting for JC would probably find themselves in the news and even a 15 pointer picking the poly route is likely to create a buzz.

My niece who’s from Tp JC went into NUS biz course can feel that too, since most of the kids who went into that course are from RJ, HC and they already had their own clique, so she made no friends there for that 3 yrs. And not like she’s an introvert.

Back in my days, when it was known as FBA, the various JCs were well represented. There were also some former students of OI / JI. As the IGP has remained relatively stable, I can only assume that either the other JCs are not delivering as much quality or people are more comfortable with friends known since year 1 IP.

Sometimes, they have to think it out and experience the ups and downs for themselves. For us, we advised our older girl the other way - to do A levels first, then poly. We knew she couldn't handle poly at 16, and hoped that the 3 years in MI would help her grow and mature a bit more. After that, she went to poly, and would probably have been ok. But she was also offered a university for a course she preferred. So you never know, if your daughter takes A levels, she might still do well enough to get a university place. Dunman High open up 80 new seats, for 2019 JAE students. 80 is such a small number, was expecting single-digit Cut-off-point, similar somewhat to Nanyang Junior College. How can it be 12 points to 15 points ?
