Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]

sorry I don’t mean to say the girl is the victim in this case or who is right/ wrong. Just a general referral to cases where girls/ women are violated by their bosses, supervisors, boy friends etc. and the importance of teaching them to stand up for their right and say no if they feel it’s not right or uncomfortable.

Yes - I agree with the point of defending yourself/ learn to speak up. School is a good learning background to do it - just like answering a quedidon don’t be afraid to give the wrong answer , you will learn something from it.I am not a nygh parents. Sorry for writing here. I heard about the incident from my girl and out of curious just reading up the forum to find out what happened.
Not here to comment what’s right or wrong or to offend anyone. But one question raised by a parent/ forummer raises my attention. Why didn’t the girl or the classmates say no to the teacher? They are sec4 students, not sec1 girl who just entered the school and easily intimidated.
I think as parents, the only way to protect our children is to teach them to say no to advances that make them feel uncomfortable, even from people of authority or people that they respect or love. We have heard and read a lot about workplace harassment etc. To prevent them from becoming a victim in the future, we have to teach them to stand up for themselves. Say no, be firm. Ask to speak to higher authority if they need to and don’t be afraid. -
Reported in Zaobao. Famous already.

Zaobao report today, Tuesday

There are many reasons why the girl cried. Why didn’t the girl stop, maybe because she believed that schools have the right to conduct spot checks to ensure compliance to school rules. I could imagine that the girl are could just be more timid/introverted. Or she was just worried cos she could have violated the school rules.
Please exercise some common sensical judgement, this should not be cited as if it’s the same as sexual harassment from boss/supervisor.
If this girl happens to be timid/introvert kind and happens to read all the speculation about the incident, what if she 一时想不开 how? Please stop asking why she cried, just be sensitive.
By the way, I am not sure if you are the same person having many different nicknames cos many of the posts are made by new comers making their maiden posts -

As other school mum, I think it is good chance to teach kids say no. I mean to teach teens say no. As later they have capability to say it at important site, time. There are many reasons why the girl cried. I heard some secondary 1 or 2 students in Nanyang did not tell their parents this issue. Because they thought it was not relevent to themselves. They were not checked on that day. But later, they also will grow up, will they?
No issue is single issue. We have shared with my DD and also want her to haave a right attitude to the life.
Now they are in teen age. I think later they will meet all kinds of people. To some boys, or man, if girls do not not say no to uncomforble things. these man think that means yes.
We do not want these things happen to our dear DD, do we? -
It’s great to hear all the ‘other school’ mums’ perspectives.
Reinforces and restores my faith in Nanyang Girls and ‘Chinese schools’ in general somehow. I’m glad the school does not mollycoddle the girls - regardless of merit. -

Then why you complain? just put it as school rules. It's great to hear all the 'other school' mums' perspectives.

Then why principal say sorry?
I donot understand.... -
I didn’t complain - how did you assume I did?
I’m just watching on the sidelines, like everyone else.
传统华校出生的家长都会能够理解的。 -
After this incident, Principal can amend NYGH school rules, add in one more new rule :
no colored bra allowed in school, only allow white or beige colored bra, because school uniform is all white, thus whatever under-garment student wear underneath, can be clearly revealed, apart from white or beige color.
