There are many reasons why the girl cried. Why didn’t the girl stop, maybe because she believed that schools have the right to conduct spot checks to ensure compliance to school rules. I could imagine that the girl are could just be more timid/introverted. Or she was just worried cos she could have violated the school rules.

Please exercise some common sensical judgement, this should not be cited as if it’s the same as sexual harassment from boss/supervisor.

If this girl happens to be timid/introvert kind and happens to read all the speculation about the incident, what if she 一时想不开 how? Please stop asking why she cried, just be sensitive.

By the way, I am not sure if you are the same person having many different nicknames cos many of the posts are made by new comers making their maiden posts

As other school mum, I think it is good chance to teach kids say no. I mean to teach teens say no. As later they have capability to say it at important site, time.
I heard some secondary 1 or 2 students in Nanyang did not tell their parents this issue. Because they thought it was not relevent to themselves. They were not checked on that day. But later, they also will grow up, will they?
No issue is single issue. We have shared with my DD and also want her to haave a right attitude to the life.
Now they are in teen age. I think later they will meet all kinds of people. To some boys, or man, if girls do not not say no to uncomforble things. these man think that means yes.
We do not want these things happen to our dear DD, do we?

It’s great to hear all the ‘other school’ mums’ perspectives.

Reinforces and restores my faith in Nanyang Girls and ‘Chinese schools’ in general somehow. I’m glad the school does not mollycoddle the girls - regardless of merit.

Then why you complain? just put it as school rules.
            Then why principal say sorry?
            I donot understand....

I didn’t complain - how did you assume I did?

I’m just watching on the sidelines, like everyone else.

After this incident, Principal can amend NYGH school rules, add in one more new rule :

no colored bra allowed in school, only allow white or beige colored bra, because school uniform is all white, thus whatever under-garment student wear underneath, can be clearly revealed, apart from white or beige color.

I think this issue is over-hyped, now that all the key information has been shared. Those affected will deal directly with the school (and P) if there are still concerns not resolved (and we need to respect that, because not everyone is affected to the same extent), while those not affected directly can use this as a teachable moment in their own ways.

Sometimes I wonder, if this incident didn’t happen in NYGH but happen in other "less popular" schools, would the same spotlight of such intensity be shone on this matter? Although in principle, I believe that what the teacher had done was not appropriate, no matter which school was involved or what circumstances the teacher was under at that moment.

We must learn to distinguish between facts and opinions.

Fact is what has happened and what actions the school has taken.
Opinions - everyone is entitled to their own and they are influenced by many factors.

If my child is still with the school, I would be glad that the message sent to my girl through actions taken by the school is clear. (This is an opinion)
As for shuangbaoma’s statement that some NY girls did not tell their parents about it, I don’t see why that is an issue. (This again is my own opinion)

While we can all decide what are the teachable moments (personally, I will add 谣言止于智者, don’t post if u are unclear and that applies to adults too 🦆 ), I hope parents in the forum do not use this uniform check incident to bash NY girls or the school unnecessarily.
This will increase tension between schools.
Let the NY community handle the issue among themselves.
