Anyone with experience with Writer’s Guild at Yishun? Can’t find any feedback on the forum. Does anyone know the fees for p6 Creative Writing? Contacted them but they are not willing to disclose prior to assessment with Ms Trinity. Am hesitant to fix an appointment as I feel that it is pointless to attend the assessment if the fees are beyond our expectations.

DD attended the writing class for 2 years but I withdraw her already. My dd is an avid reader and always scored well for English paper 2 but somehow did not do well for paper 1 last time so I sent her to Writers’ Guild. After one year there, she is the top scorer in her class. I was super happy to see her so proud and her English composition result was consistently high the next year. Problem is her Chinese result was really jialat, so no choice, I pulled her out of the English writing class and put her in another Chinese writing class and an additional Chinese general class. DD was angry with me that time cos she likes her class at Writers’ Guild. Aiyo I only have limited resources and PSLE is about T-score so I must prioritize. Heard from my friend whose child is still there that by right talented writers like my dd will get to go through a different intensive programme for competition training and they have a track record of students winning national writing competition. But I feel PSLE is more important so dd must score well for both languages. For u, I think there is no harm going for the assessment to see if it is suitable for your child.

Hi, I’m wondering if there are any composition marking services (pegged to Singapore PSLE style of marking), where a student writes a compo at home and emails it to a teacher who will grade and mark the compo in detail, with guidance on how can he/she improve in some areas, what and how to elaborate, adding in good phrases/sentences to the compo where necessary, with the intent to allow the student to read, compare, analyse and improve.

I haven't tried this particular review service, but have received feedback for other EL components from them. They Do understand the national requirements. Besides their exam knowledge, I like the fact that the package is reasonably priced (no expiration date), with a child-friendly interface, plus is well-illustrated.

Thanks sky, good to see you here again. This school looks good. I like the marking sample style. I will try out the composition reviews. I want to give my DS more freedom in terms of writing style, and also want to test his own brainstorming abilities, thus have decided on this over a CW school.
