Hi Iluvmygals
Wanted to share this a while ago but forget...bluepencil\" post_id=\"1898431\" time=\"1550190895\" user_id=\"165241:
Hi all, my girl is weak in electrical circuits. She will learn and yet get new questions wrong. May I knw if anyone buys some kind of small electrical circuit for the child to visualise? Is it from popular and also is it useful?? My girl is also somehow weaker in visualisation math questions. Cry. I think she played too little lego...

The above website let you construct circuits. Once the bulb lights up means circuit is good. It can even show different degree of brightness when there is more than one bulb. Some schools may have shared this website already cause my kids got it from school and used it to check their answers.
Thanks for this, we use this also. but I guess my girl needs touch and feel to understand better. Nevertheless this website is helpful.
For chinese composition, does your child write more picture compo or open ended one? I know picture compo is recommended. But it can be challenging for a child who is weak in expression. An example, last SA there was one picture compo where two person had a head on collision 相撞. My child didn't know how to describe it. She ended up writing that they bang and bang 撞来撞去. I want to faint... -
My kids tends to write more picture compo but we prefer them to write the open ended one cause open ended one tends to score better. Picture compo hard to score on content cause everyone will be writing almost the same storyline except for the last picture or the ending.
What we do for PSLE is to practice a few open ended questions and prepared them for a few possible questions. So kids can reuse the same story for different scenarios. At the same time, we teach them how to look at the picture and add more description, make the story more lively, pay attention to details.
End of day, I think kids will choose what they are comfortable writing. -
Parents, how do you use the orange coloured PSLE science revision guide by Marshall Cavendish? Do your children read it thoroughly or just read selected chapters?
It is on our textbook list but our teacher does not touch it at all
So far my child attends enrichment, has tuition notes, reads textbook, do exam papers, but this orange book is hardly used
What about the Ultimate science guide by EPH. Is it a must read too???
thanks for any feedback! -

Did you feedback to your child's class Science Teacher or your school Science HOD -
It is on our textbook list but our teacher does not touch it at all
why was the orange coloured \"PSLE science revision guide by Marshall Cavendish\" recommended inside your P5 & P6 primary school booklist, but class Teacher didn't get the students to touch it ? After purchase the book, what do they want their students, to do with it ? Read it at home, expected to self-study, by themselves ? If you ask your Tr this question, the answer provided, will indicate the extent (or degree) of how relevant (useful) this book, is.
At least, your school is good in that, they bother to recommend inside their school's Upper primary (P5 & P6) booklist. Some schools, don't even bother to recommend any -
today I got dd do a Sci paper…omg, mcq section ok but the open ended jialat!

Open ended have higher degree of difficulty and much harder to score. Very different from our time.

This Orange book, Marshall \"PSLE Revision Guide\", even though your P6 son's class Teacher had never asked students to use it in class, but if you have already purchased a copy at home, since it had been recommended by your school inside their \"P5/P6\" booklist, can ask your son to test out himself, to what extent, or how useful, is this Orange book ?
eg.
In his most recent 2019 (February) P6 CA1 Science exam, Total, how many MCQ did he get wrong, out of Total 28 MCQ set inside booklet (Section A) ? Let's say, is \" x \" questions wrong.
For each of his wrong MCQs in his P6 CA1 paper :-
1)
perhaps, get your son to read up those particular chapter(s) or Topic(s), check (confirm) if the correct answer(s) could be obtained (found) directly, after reading this Orange book ?
Out of Total x number wrong, how many questions could be answered correctly, after reading this Orange book content ? Let's say, the number is \"y\".
2)
Repeat above step (1), with another EPH \"Ultimate Science Guide\".
Do the same thing.
Out of Total x number wrong, how many MCQs could he answer correctly, if he had spent some time reading up this \"Ultimate Science Guide\", beforehand (first) ? Let's say, is \"z\".
Ask him, between these 2, which book can help him more, in terms of reducing the number of MCQ answered wrongly substantially, out of \"x\" ? Compare his \"y\" and \"z\".
Is it EPH or Marshall, more useful (practical) ?
He is the best person to answer, by getting him to work through each of his wrong answers, step by step in detail, in order to know (determine), which is the \"MUST\" read book. -

Thanks for the idea. I guess whatever reference book you have, just diligently refer to it for those parts that you are weak in. Most of us don't have time to read everything from cover to cover... -
For science, we read two guidebook - one is Ultimate Science Guide and the other is Your Companion to Science. I have my gals read them cover to cover during the June holidays. The additional info in these books (or whichever science guide book) help compliment the school notes.
On top of having enough knowledge, there are techniques that the kids need to master in order to do well for open ended questions. MCQ also have techniques to increase probability of getting it right.
