ur school was one paper after another, except paper 1 was week before.

Our math exam paper - my child is usually A star only for this subject, but this time the paper was super hard, and the A star became average A. Many children could not finish and many cried.
I wonder , these results are for DSA, who in the world would know our math paper was so hard. We happen to have a genius and overzealous math teacher . cry... 😢

Most schools had back to back papers within a week, but hey put it this way, if your kid was able to survive this sort of taxing schedule, i.e. able to mentally turnover from subject A to subject B overnight, it's a remarkable feat, albeit achieving a less than coveted grade in the prelims. I'm pretty sure they will recover in Sept when 2 subjects are scheduled after the weekend, so kids can rest and recover to revise the concepts adequately.

My relative's girl (average std) has always had her school MYE and YEE papers back to back (Fri being HCL) since P4, so her Science (always a Thurs) was always badly done due to cognitive fatigue. But this time, the school placed 2 subjects after the Vesak Day long weekend and she had enough time to recuperate after EL and MA, so she could focus much better for Section A and grade jumped from high-B to mid-A now.

I recall seeing a school timetable that scheduled MTL last, so their potato kids had ample time to look through the 3 years worth of vocab lists. That's why you see some kids reportedly scoring near or over 190/200 for MTL which is near impossible for kids in some popular schools renowned for their exacting MTL stds.

I cited the MSHS' taxing schedule as e.g because I know a few MSHS boys who did so poorly in their own domestic exams, making their parents worry big time as they feared their kids could not even meet the affiliated sec COP, and worse, they could not even use their school's dismal scores to DSA to their dream schools. But amazingly they all did well in PSLE...perhaps thanks to the taxing schedule. LOL.

If MOE is trying to get more students to apply thru DSA in lieu of T-score, I strongly urge those scholars to set up a task force to look into the different exam schedules set by different primary schools. An A* in School A for Subject A is not quite equal to another A* in School B for Subject A.

Can i ask what is MYE and YEE?

MYE : mid-year exam in May, ie. SA1

YEE : year-end exam in October, ie. SA2 (P3 to P5, because P1 and P2 no more exam) or Prelim (August) for P6

Thanks Zeit for the words. We just took the exam as it is, cry also cannot do anything. Today my child brought back Science exam paper. The science paper was also quite tough. When I looked at it my face turned white, but I daren't express it in front of my child.

Indeed what you said is true, every school set different exam schedule and even exam paper difficulty. Our school is not top popular school. That means there are other schools who are not top popular schools with the real challenging exam papers we never know ...

Interesting article, didn’t know there is a term called cognitive fatigue. definitely always experienced by my child studying and studying. "I tired, my eyes sleepy, i need to eat sweet for energy…"

Hope all parents are accepting or satisfied with the SA1 results so far. My child and myself have been engine down since last week.
We realised we need to improve our chinese composition greatly . Apparently my child can speak and blah blah blah away in oral like a magician, but in compo the sentences are all affected because 口语 and 写作 is really quite different.

Anybody can recommend a really good chinese compo book? I would have to sit down and study with her ... sigh
I bought one recently and my child asked me how come the pictures are so wierd like it is not about an event that happened but is more general for eg buying fruits !????
Hi, for my dd, i prefer buying those compo books that explain the technique used / good phrases, just to share these few but i'm not affiliated to any of these in anyway:

:
- Chinese compo books by Mindstretcher
Just wanna share an experience...I had browsed & purchased a copy cos 1 series of pictures resembled a school exam question. However, the book's 审题 (just an opinion, after brief discussions with our compo tutor) did not seem quite accurate, so.

... seen before at student's place ... not limited to PSLE type questions ... not compos that will tick all of marker's boxes too. You won't miss anything without it.

Thx u!
