Initially they closed the case without properly asking my son in detail what exactly happen. The teacher whom send my son to the 24hr clinic, just merely ask, " did u run n why did u run". Until I msg him n told him it was a prank that his friend did that cause it. That teacher went to ask the boys, is that person this kind of person that will do this kind of prank to other n everyone said no. He asked that boy n he changed the fact. So teacher concluded that if my son didn’t run , this accident will not happen n hence it is Pure Accident.

I was speechless n shocked. Looking at my son 8 stitches was nothing n no big deal is it…

I think the school should arrange for all the involved parties to sit down and talk to understand what exactly had happened. Can you request for this?

I m waiting for the sch investigation report.

But b4 that they already told me whatever punishment given will not be made known to me and informing the boy parents, it has to be very serious n grievances enough n plus the boy never repent.
The principal will only meet me n my hubby.

Really fubar. You can forward school replies to MOE Superintendent, cc to P, VP and teachers involved. Bring out all your unanswered questions to MOE Superintendent, this should make them look at the case seriously.

FUBAR? Not necessary. It’s easy to get into knee jerk reactions.

While I don’t doubt that the incident had happened, how and why it happen may not have been fully disclosed. It’s only fair that the school / teacher / student be given a chance to respond (which they can’t do so here) and for their side of the story to be presented. There’s always two sides to a coin. Waiting for the investigation report would be prudent.

Hi, I’d urge you to pursue the matter until (1) the school comes to you with an explanation of their investigation results; (2) you can then give your opinions whether you agree with their investigation results; (3) the CCA/student population needs to be taught that such pranks & the like, are unacceptable, or that they should not play with doors (teacher-in-charge/discipline master needs to speak to them); (4) the prankster’s parents should be notified so that they know what goes on in their child’s school life & safety rules can be reinforced at home as well; (5) the school especially teacher-in-charge needs to promise to monitor the safety of the charges.

If the safety of your child’s CCA environment is not strengthened, please consider changing CCA.

Yes. It will be prudent to wait for the sch investigation report. And now better keep my hand tied.

                      Hi bluemom,

                      Fully understand your concern.

Maybe CCA teacher in-charge together with other teacher in-charge are still in the midst of investigating
the incident and therefore are unable to communicate with you effectively, and give you an impression
that the school takes the matter lightly.

There are CCTVs within school premises, I believe that teachers in-charge are able to find out additional
                      details from the CCTVs.

It's good to wait for the investigation report, to obtain clearer details and clarify your doubts during your
meeting with the school leader. It's better to resolve the matter within the school community.

How could a teacher make such a remarks that "it should be very serious and grievances and if the boy dun repent, his parents would then be informed!" Moreover this teacher came from such a prestigious school! Perhaps SJI should explain, what does the school consider as "very serious and grievances!"

Our boys spend most of their time in the school and with this incident and the way the teacher react and respond to the parents, make me very worried & concern about my boy’s safety in school. Playing a prank on a friend is considered as "an action with intention", a prank may or may not cause bodily harm/injury to the victim. But it definitely caused some emotional distress to the victim. The victim may develop low self esteem or depression from the incident and those very serious ones may even suicide… thus, the school should not take this kind of action lightly! Our boys are still in their teens and can playful at time and usually overlook the safety consequences due to their playfulness. Hence, the school and the parents have the responsibilities to teach & give proper guidance to the boys and have to constantly remind them on the safety aspects.
Thus, not only does the school owe you a good explanation, the prankster should formally apologise to your boy. This also teach the prankster a lesson and make him do some reflections on his action and he must think of the consequences before he act… this lesson will teach him good in life.
