I am an ex-nyjc student and this is a brief analysis I did of JC's competitiveness over time. I think it will aid you guys in your decision to select which school to go to.

Sadly, it's a fact that Nyjc grads won't get that 'wow! you're from top jc' kind of compliment or recognition when they are in uni, unlike those from elite jcs with long history such as ri, hci, njc or vjc.
Agreed. Even in the workplace, it is viewed as what you have said.

IP JC students have to take 4H2. That is the minimum requirement to qualify for any scholarship. Preferably including 1H3.

But H3 is offered to end of JC1 a few selected students, based on their overall year-end JC1 promotional results into JC2, correct ?

It is not based on O-level Science results, meaning student scored A1 for OP (Physics / Chemistry / Biology), then can right-away offer H3 Science, to these Junior College students.
(do correct me, if wrong. Thanks )

            OP : O-level program

Yes, you are right. You need to do well in your H2 subject in JC1 before being offered as H3 for that subject in JC2. NYJC students could choose 4H2 in JC1 if they are not DSA students. However, most students prefer to take 3H2 & 1H1.

One of friends son has gone to NYJC open house. He likes the school environment & location of NYJC. After much consideration, he chooses NJC even though it is very far from his home (Punggol). His parents think NJC is more elite as PM Lee is their old boy. Moreover, he was a a school team debater but NYJC does not have a debate team. He intends to study law in NUS.

Yr friends son is wise to choose a JC based on school environmemt he likes. Hes de one studying, not parents.
Njc Elite? Depends how you think Elitism this thingy.
Dun choose school just based on that. Times changed.
Btw, elite or not, Njc standard has fallen behind Nyjc.

one thing good about Nanyang JC is that, u can have flexible subject combination at A-level, unlike other JCs that offer \"fixated\" subject combination

But that means the student may end up having long days in school.
