NJC always looks after the students’ welfare. They will not arrange boarding during exam time, especially in the more critical years (like JH3, 4, and SH1). The SH1 boarding is in early March (end of Term 1), if I remembered correctly.
For this year (2019),
when was the 2 weeks SH1 boarding, conducted ?
was it conducted in Term 1 (January), beginning of the year, or towards examination time, in Term 3 ?
Is this 2 weeks SH1 boarding compulsory, at Junior College level ?
Can opt out ?
During these 2 weeks stay, how is the arrangement of sleeping dormitory like ?
Is it girls sleep on even level, guys sleep odd level, within the same dormitory block,
or
girls and boys sleep in different, separate dormitory block, where girls and boys are out of bound, from each other block ?
As sembgal has already shared, JH4 boarding is in Term 1 and JH3 in Term 3 (both don’t clash with mid year or end of year exams). JH3 in Term 2 (also no mid year), and JH1 in Term 4 (more time for the first years to get settled down in the new school).
Boarding is compulsory and can only opt out if you have valid reasons. I can’t exactly remember, but it is likely that the girls and boys are on different levels. I can’t exactly remember because there were no issues or concerns that were encountered or raised so after the first year I don’t really bother anymore. -
Boys and girls are separated on different floors. A mentor is stationed on each. Students have been sternly cautioned on the consequences. Lifts & door entrances (to stairs) are only accessible by ezlink cards. There is strict boarding security & outsiders (even parents) are not allowed (except for check-in day or scheduled tour day) in. Didn’t the school’s briefing cover these concerns, my dear?

2020 Sec 1 Orientation day ? -

I have a gal in njc and one in nygh . Basically why njc becos she doesn't want to go all girls school . Haha ! Why Gals always have petty issues .
She enjoyed all her 6 years there . She was given lots of opportunities. CCA , she can choose what she likes .In fact she doesn't feel as stress as my 2nd gal . Who say don't score well in NJC . She scored straight A for all her subjects in last A level. -
I feel that it’s narrow-minded to judge the worth of a school based on it’s mean or median UAS. The easiest way to pull up one’s score is to retain or dismiss the bottom 5% of the cohort from the school by setting a high promo benchmark. If any of the top JC does that, their medium/mean UAS will shoot thru the roof as the bulk of their intake are the crème-da-le-crème of the P6 or S4 students.
NJ seems like a very humane kind of school which will promote as many students as possible to the next level, and offer them a chance to sit for A level. I believe a UAS of 7x is enough to clinch one a place in one of the local uni - a level that should be easily attainable by majority of our IP students here (do correct me if I’m wrong). So there’s no necessity to set a high promo benchmark.
On one hand we expressed sympathy for the stress that our students are undergoing, on the other hand, we are begrudging a school that is lenient enough to allow some of it’s weakest students to sit for A level, at the expense of pulling down it’s median/mean UAS.
It’s a matter of opinion, but I wish that all schools will follow RGS’ example (and some other IP schools too) and set the IP promotion at 50% which will remove undue stress from some of our students. -
