      Hi all

May i know wats the benefit of taking 3rd language? Thanks
Unless your child wants to specialize in a language as a major option, or hes aiming to use his language option for future job such as Foreign Ministry etc.

Learning new languages helps develop the child’s brains to process better. I think I still hv some of the slides MOELC shared.

Knowing more foreign language opens doors to opportunities if yr child plans to study overseas

Anyway, even if submit by 3 pm tomorrow Wed, they won't process immediately, because must wait for those students who have appealed for psle results to re check, clear all these appeal cases, before computer can process S1 posting

No I called MOE helpline to understand appeal process. MOE will post kids based on existing t-score. Roughly, appeal outcome will be out same time as posting outcome. If really the t-score went up, you can take the re-issued cert and appeal to another school with higher COP if you wish to do so.

Sorry, i forgot to clarify my definition of Appeal

The Appeal I refering to here , is refering to those students who request SEAB to re-look or investigate into why their PSLE score per subject (eg. Science) was much lower than what the P6 student had expected. And per subject investigation, costs $53.
          Eg.

If investigate 2 subjects (eg. Maths & Science), why gotten grade B instead of A, need to pay
          ($53 x 2) = $106, to investigate what happened, during 2019 Psle marking

Whereas another type of appeal that cutepandabear refering to, will arise later on, AFTER MOE have sent the early morning sms to P6 parents, to inform parents which Secondary school their child has been posted to. And if their child have met the school's COP, they can appeal later if vacancies arise.
We are talking about different kind of appeal

              It’s the same.

Whether you appeal to SEAB or otherwise, you will be posted based on your existing t-score. Should there be a revision of t-score after the review, you will have to take the new score and appeal to a school of your choice (where you meet the COP).

The process doesn’t wait for SEAB to complete before it starts.

                No they have to wait

                Because

In the event the child improve grade after appeal, means got higher Tscore. Through S1 posting, child can get posted to a \"better\" school. Moe only run the automation S1 posting algorithm once, to post P6 students concurrently into various schools

Yes, MOE only look into posting once. You get posted based on current t-score. If you improved subsequently, you can appeal to another school. Take it from people who understand and know the process.

Agree that Malay is the most useful and practical being where we are. But most importantly, which language is your child interested in? They will not survive the 4 years journey if they have no interest in the language.

Spanish is the most spoken language after Mandarin and English. Some studied German in hope of studying there in future as education is free or at very low cost even for international students.

Personally felt that there is no lost in learning another language. It is definitely a better way to spend one’s free time rather than playing with the phone all day. Let the child choose a language to try. Can always drop if they really have no interest or can’t cope. There is no lost (except the cost of textbooks, which you can try to buy from Carousell. Many ppl drop out of 3rd language and sell their brand new textbooks there!)

For DSA CO, NO NEED to do anything if you opt out THIRD LANGUAGE.

                        from MOE website:

                        2. Allocation outcomes
If your child is admitted to a secondary school through DSA-Sec, they are not allowed to submit school choices during the Secondary 1 (S1) posting process.

However, they may still be eligible to submit:

                        Course options
                        Third Language options

Your child will receive an Eligibility Letter enclosed with the PSLE results if this applies to your child. You must submit these options within one week of receiving the PSLE results.

Note: If no options are submitted, your child will be admitted to the more academically-demanding course or considered to have opted out of Third Language.
