I find it very strange, my son’s school only allocate 3 hours per week to Science and 6 hours to English per week. How about your child’s school?

Yes, standard across primary schools. But if your class Science Tr need more lessons, usually they will take from some other lessons like PE (eg)

Onsponge has 2 books for each level. The “essential” one is basic and the “ conquer” one is for more advanced questions.

Does math booster or A* follow the syllabus closely or do they do tougher questions?

Our school only allocated 2.5 hours to sci! Even worse... I’m sure they are able to balance the teaching materials though.

Last year my child underwent PSLE. It was a tough and stressful time for me as I worried if he’d be able to get a good aggregate score. Good enough to be able to get into at least near home Secondary School instead of somewhere far. I put him into two different tuition centers to coach all his subjects Eng, Maths, Science. Eventually, it got paid off and he did well for his PSLE. Almost everyday was tuition tuition. Make him do alot of past year papers. Practice Practice.


As unfamiliar with how current PSLE works, I was all out on internet searching for answers.
1. Everybody was saying so much about T-score. Whatever that means. Later I found out that no matter what the T-score is MOE doesn’t share the information with public. The calculations can only be guess and check. Nothing you can do to change this fact. Don’t know why everybody talking so much about it and worried and also made me nervous.
2. Cut off Point (COP) - I also caught up with COP. What does that mean? School cut off point is based on last year. Present year is not given. From what I understand from MOE, this is also not given by MOE. So you have to gauge if your child aggregate score will be able to get into that school based on last year COP. Compare past 3 years score of that school and you will be able to gauge. Usually will be +3 or -3. Some schools remain the same COP throughout each year.
4. Selection of school - School will give out a Booklet that have a list of Secondary School and information about the school. Handy to help you select.The school will give you a letter with a special pin when your child collect results. This is to use for apply selection of school online. However, do search on internet to check if the school have any changes. For example my case, I found out that Woodlands Ring is relocating to Yishun next year. Another case is Admiralty Secondary requires students to get iPad for education purpose.
5. When school selection result release, MOE will send SMS. I got mine early in the morning 6am. MOE portal can only check result @ 9am onwards.

Hope this comes in handy. This is just my experience. I am just glad it is over. It was certainly a nightmare for me.

Ours worse - 5 periods mean 2.5 hrs?
Not enough...hopefully school will supplement in other ways hiaz.

It sounds very stressful indeed sigh... just hoping consistent work will pay off. No time to have tuition for all the subjects too 😞
