Affiliated Schools and their COPs

I think they may have been increasing the number of DSA spots (just my guess) to non-affiliated kids since the MOE policy was announced on maintaining a minimum percentage of non-affiliated students w.e.f. 2020. As for my kids' years (they are Sec 2 and Sec 1 this year), and from their primary school, there were at least 2 if not 3 DSAs to ACSBR (and this is from one primary school alone.) But do check with the school I wouldn't have the full numbers.

The cap for DSA is 20%. In theory, ACSBR can fill that up and leave the remaining spots for S1 application to the affiliated schools. While they may have increased the number of DSA recently, I doubt that they are close to the magic 20% yet.

I didn’t think (and no reasons to suspect) that 99% of ACSBR are from affiliates lah. However, the school must have been close or slightly beyond 80% (so zac’s mum numbers seem reasonable). The MOE capping of affiliation will definitely impact them, one way or another.

Yes, I think the "78.66-87.39%" range from affiliate schools seems reasonable.

I have used the information from MOE's School Finder website, to fill in the latest data for the affiliated secondary schools. The 20% cap on affiliates has had the following obvious results:

- ALL the schools now receive non-affiliated students (this was the intention of the new rule);
- ACSBR and St Pat's stand out as having had big reductions in their affiliation discount for Express stream (an expected side-effect of the new rule) because their Express COPs went up by 7-13 points;
- other schools do not seem to be discernibly affected.

Which might mean ACS and ST Pat's Pri cohort results improved ...

Not necessarily. The [U]Cut Off Point[/u] went up. It does not necessarily mean their overall T scores went up.


It simply means those affiliated kids who score below the COP had to go to another school because the 20% cap had been filled to the max already. No more room for the lower scorers.

I had meant ....both schools COP for affiliated went up because ..... the lowest score for the 80% went up.

I don’t think the lowest 80% went up. For ACSBR eg, it’s simply becoz previous cut off at 100% was 189, now 80% is 198. For ACSBR, those didn’t meet express 198, still able to go NA. But St. Pat is really a surprise mentioned by floppy, those 195 to 200 can’t go in as affiliates.

So this year, more seats were released to the non-affiliated applicants? Then by right, the COP for non-affiliates should go down right as more will be able to join the school? But the COP for non-affiliates went up instead.
