Affiliated Schools and their COPs
-
Not necessarily. The Cut Off Point went up. It does not necessarily mean their overall T scores went up.
It simply means those affiliated kids who score below the COP had to go to another school because the 20% cap had been filled to the max already. No more room for the lower scorers. -
Sorry, I mean the 80% cap on affiliates. The rule says 20% is reserved for non-affiliates.
-
ACSBR was always expected to be affected. St Pat was a surprise.

I had meant ....both schools COP for affiliated went up because ..... the lowest score for the 80% went up.

I don’t think the lowest 80% went up. For ACSBR eg, it’s simply becoz previous cut off at 100% was 189, now 80% is 198. For ACSBR, those didn’t meet express 198, still able to go NA. But St. Pat is really a surprise mentioned by floppy, those 195 to 200 can’t go in as affiliates.

So this year, more seats were released to the non-affiliated applicants? Then by right, the COP for non-affiliates should go down right as more will be able to join the school? But the COP for non-affiliates went up instead.
ST Pat :
2018, for non-affiliates COP @ 229
2019, for non-affiliates COP @ 233 -

Not necessarily. Sometimes the non-affiliates are too scared to try, worry about cannot break in to the cliques etc. I recall last year there was so much angst regarding whether non-affiliates can try PLMGS, what kind of T score got chance etc. cos there was no past COP to refer to.

Even if there was some past year COP to refer to, either the non-affiliate applicants were too scared to try if T score too far below the past trend, or...simply not much demand from non-affiliates. I believe the 20% remains reserved even if it’s not filled completely? Don’t think the school is allowed to fill them with affiliates if <20% outsiders apply. -

Maybe because before the 20% thing, fewer non-affiliates chose the school thinking that they may not get in since most places will be taken up so they dont waste the 6 choices, or thinking that they dont want to be in the same school with students coming in at lower scores.

Then when there is the 20% thing, non-affiliates felt they might have a better chance of getting in, so more chose it.
Could it be like this? -
Assuming no change in the performance of the cohort, then it will be purely based on an in increase in interest by slightly high performers to stay in the family.
But I would rather think it is due to better performance and assume no change in the school attractiveness. -

i think likely , with a 20% ringfenced seats for non affi , more nearby students will try St Pat thus in the end demand more than supply for 2019 batch -> thus push up aggre from 229 ( 2018) to 233 (2019)

As for plmgs cases, all the while the non affi has very low chances , even with a 20% ringfenced for non-affi girls, some may not want to take chance in 2019 , in a way demand drop , T score also drop from high 240s to 237
i \"heard\" plmgs manage to increase new sec 1 cohort intake for 2019 batch - thus at the same time will or may increase the 20% physical vacancies for non affi girls since total enrolment increase (??) - which is good news for 2019 girls who gave it a try
