Last year cohort is smarter. The PTM was in May 2019 so form teacher should be using 2018 PSLE results. Anyway I think 230 is just an estimation. It could be +/- a few points depending on cohort performance.

Last year, 2019 PSLE batch (born 2007, year of piggy)

The Top 30 % cut-off, for entire 2019 PSLE cohort, was at 232

          How, to know?

          because

2019 P6 students who achieved (obtained) Raw Tscore "230", were not given the Moe eligibility (qualifying) letter, to study Higher Chinese in 2020 Sec 1. Thry can only study Standard Chinese in Sec 1, but not Higher Chinese.

          In contrast,
2019 PSLE students, who scored Raw Tscore 232, were given the Moe eligibility letter, to study HCL, in 2020 Sec 1.

Every year, the Psle cohort differ, hence overall performance also differ.

          This year,
2020 PSLE batch (born 2008), the Top 30 % Cut off point, may not be at "232", can be higher or lower than 232, depend on how they perform this year.
There is No fixated rule, at what this Top 30% cut-off Tscore, is going to be. Vary, ftom batch to batch, each Psle cohort.

Just curious, if SJI is 100% guarantee in for <1km, wouldn't many people move there to secure a spot and cause oversubscription? Why would people still move and choose Pei Hwa / ACS for instance, where the rent/mortgage is similar and chances of balloting are higher?
nothing is 100% anyways, and choosing schools are subjective, maybe you like blue shorts rather than brown shorts

If the purpose of getting a primary school is primary school education, any school without balloting can do (“every school, a good school”).

However, if you are looking for the devil in the details:
              - PHPS is a SAP school, SJIJ is not
              - SJI affiliation COP is 238 (vs 245, net difference -7), ACSI is 235 (vs 250, net difference -15). Also, St Pat affiliation COP is 188 (vs 229, -41), ACSBR is 191 (vs 245, -54)
              - Property price around PHPS is also slightly cheaper (plus there’re more public housing options)
              - Last but not least, the appeal of the uniform differs from people to people

anyone has feedbacks on these schools located in pasir ris?

                1. Causarina (<1km)
                2. Elias Park (1-2km)
                3. Meridian
                4. ParkView
                5. Tampines North (1-2km)

Need 2 backup options for my DD(SC) applying P2CS. Will be trying Pasir Ris primary under P2C.

Ideally would like to go Causarina, but it has been merged with Loyang Primary. Some of the years need ballot at P2CS and some of the years no slots left at P2C.

                Meridian/ParkView - always have slots left @ P2CS

                Thanks
                For 2Cs
                1. Causarina - for 2017 and 2018 - its all taken up by 2C. 2019 All 2Cs applicant got through. i tend think will have not so many places left or none for this sch in 2Cs.
                2. Elias - past 3 years all taken up by 2C and in 2018 2C balloting for those within 1km SC.
                3. Meridian and Parkview both look safe for 2Cs
                4. For tampines - its within the cluster of an intense fight zone in Gong shan, Poi Ching and St Hilda so it depends on the flow over from 2C folks. for 2018 - balloting needed for 2Cs for Tampines north.

I presume you understand the risks involved for your choice in 2C. All the best.

If your goal is for your son to get in to SJI, then you may want to look at the PSLE thread or SJI thread instead. Based on my knowledge from colleagues whose sons are in SJI, or missed going to SJI after PSLE at SJI Jnr, the percentage of SJI Jnr students who made the affiliated cut off for SJI is less than 30% each year. The affiliated cut off for past years’ SJI Jnr students and other affiliated La-Salle schools is 238 or 235 (I can’t remember very well but it is one of the two).
238 (close to 240), SJI affliation Tscore, is high

                  in fact
238 (SJI) affliation score, is 3 points higher, than ACS affliation (235)

If less than 30% SJI boys made it back to their affliated SJI (Secondary), still, there are many more students from affliated (St Anthony, de laselle, STS) primary school students, who come back eventually to affliated SJI

Not many affiliated boys make it back to SJI. The numbers are about the same. About 20% of each school cohort. Hence St Pat's is the next option for those who miss out on the cop. Even if you score 237.

Before I registered my kids in P1, I thought getting 230+ is as easy as ABC. It was only in last year PTM that I understand from my girl’s FT that above 230 is in fact top 30% of entire P6 cohort. In my kids’ school, I heard only around 50%+ of the students scored above 230. If the purpose of getting into that primary school is due to it’s affiliation, I will consider a school with a lower affiliation COP (e.g. PLMGS, ACS, MSHS etc).
I agree with your rationale to pick a primary school with better affiliated safety net. Parents gotta seriously ask themselves, is their kid going to be the top 20-30% of Singapore based on their brain? It’s not simply a matter of u can pay for tuition means your kid will be the top. Especially boys who tend to mature later than girls. Traditionally girls at 12 years old will have the maturity advantage & many have said there are more top scoring girls than boys across SG.
