NYGH offers O level track, primarily they accept affiliation from NYP. Hence, class grouping is necessary.
RGS is full IP track, with no affiliation, hence class grouping is not necessary. -
Hmm my first son is in another ip school and his class is a mixture of psle points. His class also mix with geepers.I see that his school they segregate according to what subjects they take. Aep will be a different class… extra language different class… psle points doesnt matter when kids are in Sec school it’s back to zero. It’s a totally new ball game. I’ve seen kids enter ip by psle points went down to express stream as can’t cope in IP and some kids enter IP by dsa survived scoring good gpa. Sec 3 they will separate according to what subjects they take…triple sci. Double sci…
Kids… I don’t think they are upset if they are in mix ip class…(mix psle points)
Like I said psle points is back to zero once they are in Sec . It’s how they going to survive there… -

No,
NYGH offers O level track, primarily they accept affiliation from NYP. Hence, class grouping is necessary.
nothing to do with \"class grouping\", definitely not for the reasoning you gave
Why?
here are the Facts
Did you ever hear of people say, they want to go NYGH, because they want to do O-level ? Nobody does this
what is NYGH classified as,
if we pose this qn to any ksp parent here, at random ?
NYGH, is one of the Top \"IP\" \"All-Girls\" schools
Do people ever associate NYGH, with one of the Top \"O-level\" schools ?
Never !
Why ?
because
NYGH is never an O-level school, to begin with, in the first place.
Is NYGH, officially announced as a dual-track school, like MGS or Cedar Girls Secondary school ?
No.
All along, NYGH is classified, as a Top IP school. Not \"The Top\", but \"a Top\" IP school.
When do NYGH girls, get routed into the on-demand \"O-level\" or SIP (Structured IP) class ?
At end of PSLE, beginning of Sec 1 ?
No
Then, when ?
2 years later,
only at the end of Year 2, when they need to stream into their Year 3 subject combination, and the school had identified some NYGH students, to join the SIP (O-level) class
At that point in time, when just finished Psle about to enter Sec 1, do the students know whether they might end up in SIP class, 2 years later ?
Of course Not !
No pupil know, what's going to lie ahead of them -
Clarifications on some of the information being passed around
1)\tNYGH has 2 GE classes (for the 2019 intake), not 4
2)\tThey are GE classes comprising of GEP students from pri schools
3)\tI do not know of any high scoring MS students (even high 26x/ 27x) in these classes
4)\t2020 intake… I believe they are now all mixed with no special GE class (need confirmation from current Sec1?)
5)\tNYGH does not “primarily” take in students from NYPS; the vast majority of students are non-NYPS
6)\tI remember approx. 80 NYPS students per year out of 390
7) Some of these NYPS students come in via DSA programs and many score above the external COP
8)\tWhether NYGH has GE classes has nothing to do with the affiliation
9) The NYPS students are not grouped together in any way in classes; in fact they are all dispersed quite equally
10)\tNYGH does not “offer” an O-level track ; they do have a Structured IP at the end of Sec 2 -

Thanks Zappy. I have daughters in sec 4 and sec 2 and I concur with your understanding. The \"4\" GEP (mixed with high PSLE scorers) have stopped after the 2018 intake.

If the criteria for such classes allocation are not transparent, will those with high PSLE scores but yet not chosen for SBGE classes be upset? :frustrated:
No
Not frustrated. Why should they be upset ?
In contrast, some of these Mainstream students, with high end 26x Tscore and above,
gladly prefer \"Not to join\" those Sec 1 Gep classes.
They much prefer, rather join the normal, regular Sec 1 NYGH classes, instead.
Yah... unsurprising that the high score MS students prefer not to join the GEP classes....
Same thing happening at the primary school level, when the school mixed the GEP students with the HA MS students into the same class... taking the same subjects other than Math, English and Science, the MS students will somehow usually click among themselves. There seems to be an invisible divider that split the MS from the GEP... despite the effort of the school to get them mix.... But come to PSLE scores.. there is usually little difference between the 2 groups.. the main difference seems to be that the HA MS tends to score better in CL while the GEP is better at Science. -
NYGH takes in affiliates students at 250, Which does not qualify for IP. Isn’t that dual track?

Ny has only one school code in the “choose your sec sch” book. So no, it isnt dual track.

On a side note, is there even a min t score to “qualify for IP”? -
Yes. 254 is the minimum for any IP schools.
-
The COP for IP schools vary from year to year. It is not a fixed number but usually it is 25X.

Yes. 254 is the minimum for any IP schools.
I looked at VS IP cop for 2019 psle / 2020 sec 1.
The cop is 252 and the median is 254. So what does half the IP cohort in VS study?
What about the students with 253 in Cedar IP? And the ones in SCGS IP?
My friend’s daughter in RGS with less than 254 is doing IP because as we know, RGS is all IP without affiliation and without SAP bonus. How did she get around this min score barrier? -

No, there is only one course - IP. There isn’t a choice to go O-level track when you enter the school.

All Sec1 students take the IP route, regardless of affiliation, GEP, DSA, MS, T-score, AEP, MEP and all the other 1001 acronyms in our school system. -

That’s certainly news to me... I wasn’t aware there is even a minimum cut-off for IP.
Yes. 254 is the minimum for any IP schools.
Thought it was based on what the school offered and the COP changes yearly depending on the PSLE results of the applicants and the number of applicants vying for the available places.
And that was also the reason why DSA students just needed to meet the qualifying express course 200 at psle in order to get into the schools even if the schools only offered IP. -

NYGH is an IP school, not O-level school
If there is no minimum, then why is there a OP and IP track in the first place... why not all IP to save the trouble.
the median is 260, for affliated students, and
the median is 265, for outside (external) students
https://sis.moe.gov.sg/SchoolDetails.aspx?schoolCode=7114
When NYGH students first started out, beginning of Sec 1 day 1, there isn't any O-level track at all. Everyone is happy, studying IP.
However, 2 years later, situation can change.
at end of Sec 2 streaming, some students cannot cope with IP, so NYGH school decided
to give them a chance, rescue them.
Let these students exit out of IP properly, by identifying them out early and route them to do their O-level, inside this SIP (\"Structured IP\") class.
After completed their O-level, these NYGH students
- can join back any A-level Junior-college or
join IB (ACSI / SJI) or
join Polytechnic,
using their O-level results to enter.
If after finish O-level, if their L1R5 qualify them to join back A-level Hwa Chong Junior College, they can still come back, if they want to. But if they prefer to go to some other JC or Poly or other IB Institution of Higher learning, also can, is up to them what future route they plan to take -

Ah yes, this girl is a dsa student. Going by your “254 is the min for any IP schools”, does this mean this dsa student is doing non IP in RGS? Because she did not get 254 which seems to be below this qualifying score. Or is RGS dual track?
Then what about the students with less than 254 in cedar ip, victoria ip, scgs ip, temasek jc ip? Their cop on moe website is below 254 which means there must be students below 254, but these students are in ip, so what is the workaround since they seem to be below this qualifying score?
