thanks for reply, I'm new to Tampines, we just bought a new project in Tampines last week. I called St Hilda but the PV for monkey baby already closed. My new house is fall under 1-2 for all school , except Chung Zheng, fall within 1km. We will move to Tampines in mid 2021. Any Tampinian here that able to advise me which school is consider a good one in Tampines/ Bedok. I dont mind to do PV as I have 2 boys Also a first timer to enroll my kid to primary, I am not too sure what is the strategy, I am trying hard to google around.

i can only say you are at the correct place to ask.

School culture seem to be quite different if you are looking at St hilda vs red swastika. You may have a preference as well.

Since you are late for St hilda PV and you also fall under 1-2km (which is not a safe option even under 2B), it could be better that you focus on eligible options.

Poi Ching PV application start around Jan/Feb each year for the registration following year
Red swastika application start from Jan till March each year for the registration following year
Gong shang start last week of Jan and application close around 2 week, you need to constantly check out the period.

Gongshang could be more competitive on your year of registration as the MOE kindergarten will commence in 2022 and will add to the 2A2 applicants, dont think that will really affects the chance in 2B but there is be more ppl trying to apply in 2022.

To have a well thought plan, you should always start the planning from your or your spouse alma mater school. That will set your 2A1 or 2A2 option, then you can plan for the 2C choices which is near you (ChongZheng you will have at the very least a balloting chance since you are within 1km, some years need balloting within 1km, some year only need 1-2km ballot),

the Rest of the above school shouldnt be your 2C option as you are staying more than 1km. then you can try to select which one to go for PV (i have no experience in the schools mentioned) (become 2B)

Other option for 2C can be St Stephen in bedok area (with affiliation)

Then try to select an option for 2Cs, for back up.

Yes, tho St. Hilda is my 1st choice but to be realistic, I should move forward. why i'm so kia su is because me and my spouse both Malaysian, he convert to Singapore citizenship and we don't have any alumni here. I even look at the birth rate in 2016, is still ok as it is lower compare to 2015 & 2014.

Do you mind to share the view on Red Swastika vs Poi Ching vs GongShang? I really not idea on which is better but solely based on academic view then is Red Swastika.

So my plan now is PV for 1 of the above mentioned school, then if i failed to enroll via 2B then i will go for ChungZheng under 2C to be safe.

Then i will try St Hilda for my younger 1

Before we get too ahead of ourselves on planning for your 2nd one - Via your current strategy of researching then PVing and planning and registering, at the end of the process, you may feel it's better to stick to phase 1 for your 2nd one, logistically, logically and better for your mental health.

My daughter, her mum and I have PR applications pending, so hopefully we get good news in enough time that we can get into Phase 2B via PV. Recognise that as (hopefully) PRs, the priority system means we stand almost no chance if a school consistently goes to balloting in 2C (not criticising the policy, it is what it is). That means 2B is our real focus, and since we don't have PR yet, grassroots is not an option.

Open to Raffles Girls or Singapore Chinese Girls, as I'm a fan of their more academic focus and their high school affiliation. Just conscious that they either occasionally ballot at 2B (SCGPS) or that the trend is moving that way (RGPS). We're open to moving closer to these schools if need be (less for the registration, and more for the convenience), although we like where we are (show me someone who likes moving house lol).

Yup, try PV at SMPS, RGPS and SCGS, good chance for 2B. SMPS usually 2C also have good chance for PR, not every year though. Can also consider Marymount Convent at 2C. Bendemeer and Cedar can be backup, sure in 2CS.

2. SCGS (primary) PV for 2016 babies will close on 1 Nov 2020. Given that you have not received your PR yet, it’s likely that you will miss the boat.

3. Bendemeer and Cedar at this moment admit both SC and PR at any distance in Phase 2C.

4. SMPS PV application will open and close next year. Still have enough buffer time for your PR to go through. However, I won’t think so far ahead to SAJC - it’s another 10+ more years to go.

Thanks for clarifying (and correcting) my jargon. Coming from a country where education is 6+6, am still getting used to the whole secondary/JC separation thing. I guess schools that offer the IP track thus appeals to me a bit more as I'm more familiar with it.

Thanks for the clarification. Wow, that's early and a shame as my wife was quite keen on SCGS, but so be it. Likely our application won't come through (esp with delays due to COVID) until early next year, so a shame to have missed the boat by a few months. Do the schools maintain waitlists in case of withdrawals (highly unlikely I'd imagine)?

Don't want to get ahead of myself and count my chickens yet anyway, odds of getting PR are tougher (and more stressful) than P1 registration I think *takes cover*.

Hearsay SCGS takes only 1 or 2 PVs every year anyway, so you don’t need to treat it as a huge shame really. Their PV interviews are extremely hard to clear.


SMPS on the other hand, doesn’t require any specific skills for PV since their PV duties are simple traffic warden duties. You just need to be able to commit to waking up early & reporting to school around 6-7am to direct traffic.
