Hi, for the new PSLE grading system, there isnโ€™t any advantage of HCL, is it? Canโ€™t add any points like the old system, jus considered priority for SAP schools only?? Thanks!

As far as I am aware, the +3, +2, +1 only applies for SAP schools now as well. I.e. 2019 PSLE scored 258 + 3 means can go NYGH, cannot go RGS.

So I believe it is similar under the new system. Distinction, Merit, Pass is first tiebreaker within an AL level for SAP schools. For other schools, it has no direct impact.
          https://www.moe.gov.sg/microsites/psle/FAQs/special-cases.html

No it is not similar under the new system.

The only similarity is the advantage (old and new) applies for SAP secondary schools only.

The big difference is, under the new system, scoring well for HCL does not add points to โ€œleapfrogโ€œ over someone without HCL. Example, a raw 7 pointer without HCL will still get into the SAP school before any 8 pointers (pass/merit/distinction) can get in.

Note that even if never take HCL at P6, still can enter SAP schools and take HCL in Sec 1 if meet MOEโ€™s overall criteria (which has been relaxed slightly).

Whereas under old system, a raw 258+3 is counted as 261, will get to leapfrog over a raw 260 who did not take HCL.[/quote]Under the new AL banding system, i am sure there will be balloting due to larger pool of students have same AL scores. So for SAP school, I think HCL will become an advantage over those who dont. (This is my guess).

For students who are able to score AL1 for CL, I am sure they should be able to handle HCL without much problem.

            Hi,

Can anyone advise if a drop of marks from 90.plus to 70 plus is normal?

            My boy results
            El -81/100
            Maths-78/100
            Science-76/100

I kept reading its suppose to drop and its normal but I saw and heard some kids are.able to score 90 plus for their latest p5 sa2 and am wondering if 20 marks drop is really normal after allโ€ฆ

Also, any kind parents can recommend any good writing class for English?
Any comments on Wow and Tas?

            Please advise

There is a reason for that. For SA1, more questions are set by school and less from MOE question bank.
While in SA2, it is the opposite.

Since there is no more SA1 for P5, I would presume that SA2 will now be as challenging.

                  ..
Usually the drop is in SA1 and then by SA2 will climb back to about the same level as before. Even if drop, should not be more than 5%. Given that your child dropped by close to 20 marks, it might indicate that there is some conceptual weakness for certain topics. Need to quickly identify and strengthen those concepts this coming holidays.
