I was so shocked  by the lack of knowledge you have on the IP Programme and was even ignorant enough to make the suggestion to offer IP to the \"not-so-bright students\". 😐 For your information, IP students start on the JC curriculum way before mainstream students. It it totally hilarious that you think they spend 4 full years to finish their O-Level syllabus. Doesn't matter if you enter the IP Programme in Yr 1 or Yr 3, you'll start on the JC curriculum straight away together with the O-Level work. There's a reason why only the brightest of students in their batch can enter IP. I hope that you will not make such ignorant comments in the future which will mislead the pubilc.

      Agreed.

The IP program specifically stated that by not doing the 'O' level, the time freed up will allow the students to do the subjects more in depth and at faster pace....

And sec 1 students in IPs start working in depth using work from sec1 to sec 3, so by year 4, yes, they would already have covered some jC curriculum work.[/quote]for those kids who can make the cut and get into the IP program, good for them, as the normal \"express\" curriculum could be too boring for them, spending unnecessary time to prepare for exams that they would score anyway based on their continual assessments and consistence performance in sec 1,2 and 3

As a student taking my PSLE this year,my parents prefer the O Level route, but i rather go for IP.My dad is okay with it,but my mom needs more convincing.

It is because for IP, you only need to take A Levels, which means if you do badly for A Levels, you wont have a certificate. Whereas, if you take O Levels then take A levels, you at least have a certificate.

It is just my opinion for i do not entertain nor like the idea of rushing through 4 years of secondary school education in less then 3.5 years. I wouldn’t want to live a fast-paced life of studying for O Levels and then A Levels. If i can get into IP, then i would be able to do more projects, learn more and have a fun secondary school life at my own comfortable, luxurious pace.

The benefits of IP is that you don’t just secure a place for your secondary education, you secure a place for your JC education too, without having to fight for that 3 points to get into top JCs like HCJC and RJC.

This is just my 2cts worth though.

              insider:

For me, I'll rather choose the non-IP way coz IP sort of will cut off the poly route completely. (my daughter can go IP but I advised her no coz of this reason and true enough now she is in poly...)
Hi insider, there is still opportunity for IP to get into poly. This is the extract from SP website on the admission page.

              http://www.sp.edu.sg/wps/portal/vp-spws/spws.fsu.international.admissions#7

Integrated Programmes (including IB programmes in Singapore School system only)
Students from Integrated Programme (IP) Schools in Singapore who have completed the equivalent of Sec 4 as well as those who have graduated from IP schools can be considered for admission. Eligibility is similar to GCE 'O' level (please refer to Full-time Courses). Eligible candidates will be assessed based on their school performance, recommendations, tests and/or interviews.

For those who have completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, the entry requirements are: For English, a grade 4 (1st Lang) or 5 (2nd Lang) is required except for Media & Communication and Applied Drama & Psychology courses where a grade 5 (1st Lang) or 6 (2nd Lang) is required; Maths and Relevant Subject* requires a minimum grade of 5. The Overall Aggregate should be at least 22 (based on 5 subjects including English, Maths & Relevant Subject).

Application is closed for the 2010 session.

Applicants may apply upon the release of the GCE 'O' level results in Jan 2010 (lasts for 5 calendar days). The actual dates will be announced later. Please apply here: Full-time Application. (This is only for those from Integrated Programmes in the Singapore School system).

For those with IB from Singapore Schools whose results will be released in early Jan, the application period coincides with that of the JAE (opens the day of GCE 'O' level results release and lasts for 5 calendar days). Application is online at this site: Full-time Application.

An interesting news article I have found, would like to share.

                They left IP for poly.

                  From Nee Ann Poly website

                  http://www.np.edu.sg/admissions/apply/Pages/dae.aspx

Applicants who have completed Integrated Programme (IP) Year 4 may be considered for admission to 3-year diploma courses based on their IP Year 4 results. Applicants who have completed Year 6 of the IP programme and obtained either a GCE 'A' level qualification or an IB Diploma may be considered for direct entry to Year 2 of selected diploma courses

this is a very bad misconception and myth that was propagated among the older generation. Please tell your parents that there is the possibility of retaking a lvl should a student happen to not do well for a lvl. Besides in today's society having just an o lvl cert is almost as good as having a lousy a lvl cert.

                      insider:

Some kids may get lost in the middle of their study journey (it can be in the middle of their IP / JC). This O level cert will enable them to pursue a diploma / a degree later when they wake up. 6 years of IP seem a bit 'far' to some kids. Having said that, I really have no idea if a child stops at the 4th year of their IP journey, what is the 'level' that he actually will be classified as. My daughter told me Dunman students have a choice of whether want to go IP or take O levels. She has friends on IP but still sign up for O level exams...
some of the the IP schools still have an 'O' Level class for those kids who do not perform during their year 1 to 4 ..... and if they do well enough in the 'O' Level, they are accepted back into Year 5 in the IP program....
