My worries are....is he able to adapt to new school life (now is play n play in childcare)...is he able to handle tons n tons of homework daily (childcare centre has no homework)...does he know which is the correct school bus to come home(we fetch him home fr childcare)...does he know how to queue and buy food during recess time... can he handle big bully in school...the list goes on..

Hey buds...congrats! When are u due?
Sometime January.
Mommilicious:
There is also play in P1. PE!!! :lol:My worries are....is he able to adapt to new school life (now is play n play in childcare)...
My girls love PE lessons!
Being in childcare helps though the routine for childcare is long and the
activities/programme are stretched till the end of the day as compared
to a 6hr compact cycle in P1.
If your child is in a very play-based childcare you may consider getting a
couple of P1 Readiness/Preparation workbooks or assessment books to
work with to equip him with the idea of concrete work. (seat work)
P1 also hardly any homework to be brought home reali.
Mommilicious:
The school buses are labelled with letters/numbers. Children will have tags.....is he able to handle tons n tons of homework daily (childcare centre has no homework)...does he know which is the correct school bus to come home(we fetch him home fr childcare)...
for identification on which bus to board. (as per the individual bus labels)
The teachers also have a list and some schools have colour tagging for
children taking the different buses.. The school buses may take longer to
adjust in the beginning with regards to timing (punctuality) and such but it
will improve as the days go by since all the teachers, parents and children
will be more familiar with the routine.
Some school bus drivers have an extra helper to look out for the children
(depending on the company) and this too will add on positive assurance for
parents.
My girls have been taking childcare since kindy days and they
love taking the school transport.
On and off, i surprise them by sending
them to school or fetching them from school. :love:Mommilicious:
Buddies are usually assigned with the P1s. The buddies are from upper pri....does he know how to queue and buy food during recess time...
They help the children to familiarize with the canteen vendors, how to queue
up and purchase food for recess. Normally parents are also allowed in for the
first 3 days. For some children, they bring snacks from home for the first few
days or even weeks until they're more comfortable buying from the stalls.
Mommilicious:
This.... is really trial and error. Guess this is something that we gotta dealcan he handle big bully in school...
with as it comes. While it may not happen while the child is in pre
school hence they're not experienced enough to handle such circumstances;
our children should know and be comfortable enough to share with us
ANYTHING that goes on in school. We've realized over the years that if
bullying is not detected early, it CAN pose a challenging emotional ride for
the children in the long run. While some children are confident and are
outspoken hence being able to better tackle/handle bully issues
independently... there are others who may not be upfront about dealing
with it. So it depends...
Just important for our children to know that we're always here to hear them
out should there be issues they have difficulty in overcoming, regardless if it
is a social related issue, any academic issues or teacher issues.
Some teachers have loud voices but they're simply firm but children may
mistake that as being fierce. Not to say that there aren't fierce teachers
though.. As parents, we can comfort them by giving them our
encouragement and our assurance that it'd be fine and yes, hopefully a
lotta fun as well. Some schools also provide parents' orientation so that
they understand how the school system works and also get a tour of
the school areas.
Your child will love being in P1. Don't you worry too much.. it's gonna be
fine. :hugs:Mommilicious:
We were excited when our 2nd daughter started P1 this year. There wethe list goes on..

were snapping away... capturing the 1st day of sch pics and she was like
lookin' at us with a look that says uhmmm... can you go back already? Enuf
pictures! Hehehee.. She was oblivious to us being there. She was much
happier interacting and playing with her friends.
The list goes on? Wait till your child moves up to P3 onwards... more things
to worry about! P1 and P2 are termed the honeymoon period/phase. :hugs:
Hope this helps somewhat..

Fettuccine:
Hi HiHi all SAHMs,
I'm too a SAHM with three kids. I had stopped working since some 9 years ago with my first pregnancy due to pre-eclampsia and demanding job.
Now my elder son is P2, second daughter is K2 and the youngest girl is 20 mths.
Hope I can get to know or share info with all SAHMs here.
Cheers.
Our kids are the exact same age. I don't have a number 3 though. Envy!
Don't think I can cope with another baby. Too busy coaching my kids in school work and settling their never ending disputes -
Mommilicious:
Wah, it will be a long answer...hehe.Hi Fettuccine,
May I know how do you manage 3 kids at home? For me, 2 is already a handful. My elder is 6. He will be entering P1 next year. Kinda worried about his transition.
When baby was born in september 2008, Son still in K2 and the following year he started P1. The two sibblings had no problems accepting this little sister. His first year in school had quite a few of bully issues, so I had a stressful time. On the contrary, this baby girl gave me less problems, quite easy to take care and she is totally breastfed.
Regarding P1 schooling, sooner or later, he/she will get used to the rules and culture of school. However, academically, do not be too relax too. Make sure he is able to read well, in order to understand instructions and do math. In my son's school, I was shocked by the math standards at P1 mid year exam. I don't think his previous kindergartens had ever prepared him for creative thinking skills.
By P2, this year, all the teething issues at P1 are resolved. I had to religiously revise with him at home after school. So my mum will stay with to help babysit the little one three times a week especially when I volunteer as PSG at school (twice a week previously). When son goes to school in the morning, laundry is done, all had breakfast and ready to sit down with 2nd daughter to revise or read articles for an hour before she heads to school at 11.30. During this time, the young one will be with grandma or \"free and easy\" playing toys, scribbling on some exercise book, or watch baby cds.
Currently, I find I cope best with routines. All chores are the same everyday or week. Since son has some enrichments at school three times a week, I have more time to do errants too.
Best to keep an Iphone to organise school dates, appointments and to do lists! -

Hi Buds,

Wow....take good care. I have two boys, hoping for another girl but it's just too tiring to handle two, not to say three lah.Sometime January.

I bought alot of assessment books from Popular but no time to coach him. My younger one needs a lot of attention. I have to sit beside him during his playtime. If your child is in a very play-based childcare you may consider getting a couple of P1 Readiness/Preparation workbooks or assessment books to work with to equip him with the idea of concrete work.
