I happen to have some Sec 2 students from SCGS and since this is the last batch using their current CL syllabus, thought I should maximize the use of the resources. 2021 Sec 2 \"SCGS\" pupils (born 2007) taking HCL,
where you are tested Total 4 chapters (16, 17, 19, 20) from
HCL Sec 2 textbook dan yuan (6 and 7) -
whereas for us (students) coming from \"St Nick\",
also Y2021 Sec 2 pupils taking the mid-year exam HCL paper ,
on this date Tuesday (11 May 2021 ),
our Chinese vocabulary \"ci yu\" tested Total 6 chapters (10, 11, 12 + 19, 20, 21) from HCL Sec 2 textbook dan yuan (4 and 7) -
this proved that
our two schools' 2021 HCL (Higher Chinese) mid-year exam (test) paper content :
CANNOT be identical,
because we are tested 2 more additional chapters plus our \"dan yuan\" are so different,
even though
we are all sitting for the same current year (2021) and
also sitting at the same identical Sec 2 level, where there is a streaming exercise at year end, for Sec 3 subject combination selection. -

In general I think most segments of the HCL paper cannot really be 'studied' for.
BTW I dropped you multiple emails - not sure if they ended up in your spam folder lol
There are quite a few SCGS girls who opt to drop HCL after Sec 2. -
Just wondering, is CL/HCL marks taken into account for Sec 2 streaming? Or do schools usually use L1 (which could be either English or Chinese) + other important core subjects?

The streaming criteria is not really made known to parents / kids.
To be honest, SCGS is very kind in that even special programmes such as BSP, is primarily interest driven. You don’t have to do well in HCL to qualify to participate in the programme.
If you are taking double science, your choice of Sci combination and Humanities (i.e. either History or Geog) is also primarily interest based. There isn’t any streaming per se.
The only thing you have to ‘qualify’ for is to read ten subjects (HCL is including in the average score to qualify to read ten subjects as they take average score). And if you wish to take triple science, there is one class and some kids may not get in. (There are only 4 IP classes in SCGS). -

I don't have the exact entry criteria to BSP, but the bar is not high. There are B-grade HCL kids in BSP (not sure about C graders as my DD did not apply). This is to the programme, but not the scholarship. Scholarship has its own criteria set by MOE. Participation in the program is by application - there are no stated criteria (though I would imagine if you are failing, you won't get admitted lol). There is no 'shortlist' to apply, so to say.
