If let's say
https://eunoiajc.moe.edu.sg/curriculum/subject-combinations/
EJC's subject combinations are listed clearly on the website.
...
If she plans to do Science in JC, then it depends whether she plans to take Bio or Physics. If she wants to do Bio in JC, then do either Bio and Chem, or triple Science in upper Sec. If she plans to take Physics in JC, then do Physics and Chem, or triple Science in upper Sec.
an IP3 student doing \"Double\" Sciences combination (Physics + Chemistry), never take Bio
but
at IP4 year-end promotional exam, do badly in Physics, inspite of studying hard for Physics for two years in Upper Secondary, border line pass, overall scored (50 / 100),
can this student proceed forward into EJC ( IP5 )
1) scenario 1
to do H2 Physics, or cannot but allowed to take H1 Physics ( Y5 ) ?
Or
2) scenario 2
ie.
student still continued with H2 Physics in Y5,
but
if Y5 / JC1 failed the mid year exam H2 Physics, then student no choice, got to drop back to H1 Physics ?
======================
In this case,
since student have never taken Bio before from Y3 (IP)
and
since there is no \"bridging\" course available for Bio inside EJC,
there is absolutely No way for this student to change from Physics to Bio at all, come Y5 (A level)
Therefore,
for \"Double\" Sciences students, the decision to take which correct Science subject from Y3 (IP) onwards, ie. to take Physics or to take Bio, is crucial
Because
there is No \"bridging\" course available in EJC, come Y5.
How to choose ?
Btw,
whether a student is stronger / weaker in Physics or in Bio :-
having studied subject Science for the past 2 years in written exam + all projects / assignments that were done in (IP1 + IP2),
plus
referring back, examine your own weighted exams marked scripts returned, going through those test questions that are related to Physics / Bio section,
students themselves actually will know they tend to do better in Physics or in Bio, content matter. Interests + passion, counts a lot too.
Eg.
some students will drop Bio, because have poor memory.
( an early alert message, meant for end of IP2 \" Double\" Sciences students, choosing their IP3 subject combination, wisely ) -
very sorry, I am not sure what the EJC criteria is to read various subjects as my DD is not yet at that stage…in this respect I am a bit more familiar with Hwa Chong as my other child is moving on to Year 5 next year. HCI requires a B3 in Chem to read Bio in JC if you did not read Bio in upper sec.

Prerequisites are in your link -
Can the moderator help to move the posts on HCI away from the SCGS forum? Sorry for the trouble.

Yes, borderline pass in Physics 50/100 in Yr 4 can proceed to EJC. However, the prerequisites to do Physics at H2 level, indicative COP is B3.
Not sure if EJC allows students to take Bio at Y5 without taking Bio in upper sec thou. -
:thankyou: grateful for your time and opinion. Stay safe!

EJC's subject combinations are listed clearly on the website.
A lot depends on how academically inclined and strong your DD is.
The first and foremost important thing, is to clear the IP programme and get promoted to EJC, and for most students, they want to be eligible for 4H2s. For progression from Sec 3 to Sec 4 on the IP programme, you need an average of at least 60%.
If your DD is consistently a high scorer, then there is the option to even take 10 subjects.
Most girls will do 8 or 9 subjects.
If your DD plans to do Arts stream in JC, it doesn't really matter whether she takes triple or double science.

The jump from
Hi!
1)
Subject combinations, then grades if the subject combination is over-subscribed. It doesn't mean you need to be top 25% to get into Triple Science - a number of academically strong girls do not opt for Triple Science. Some prefer to pursue 3rd language / Art / Music as the 9th subject instead, and do not have the appetite to read tem subjects.
It is true that some girls who opted for Triple Science did not get it. (This is so for the batches that have one triple science class - there was a period when SCGS had two triple science classes.) So not everyone who opts for Triple Science gets it. As for the precise allocation mechanism (which grades the school looks at etc - whether it is overall, or Maths and Science, I am not sure).
2)
Double Science students have 2 late days a week (excluding third language, BSP etc) whereas Triple Science students have 3 late days a week. (late days = ends at 3 pm) This applies for this year's batch of Sec 3s.
3)
Majority of HCL students do not take O level chinese at the end of Sec 3. Whether there is a select group who is asked to do so, I am not sure. My DD wasn't asked to.
4)
A good number of girls try for triple Science but all are fine as they get their choice of Humanities or Double Science combinations. I am sure some girls are very happy with one less subject as the workload is heavy in upper Sec and many have CCA or other outside commitments. You can't do Triple Science in JC in any case so it really isn't necessary to do Triple Sci in Sec School.
5)
Depends a lot on the Sec 2 Humanities teachers that year. For my DD's batch, there are more girls taking History than Geog. The Sec 3 History teacher apparently, was phenomenal. In fact, my DD says a good number of girls in her batch will do History in JC (herself included).
Hope this helps.
(IP2 to IP3) and from
(OP2 to OP3)
is drastic,
due to increased dosage for
- Maths
- Humanities
content for History / Geog, goes in deeper now.
- Sciences.
From IP2 one single Science subject, now is being split into
\"Double \" Sciences or
\"Triple\" Sciences increased dosage + increased Practical lab work sessions.
have to press on.
OP2 : Sec 2 students, in O-level
IP2 : Sec 2 students, in IP -
One question on the Upper Sec combinations, if you stick with 8 subjects must you have 2 humanities and 2 sciences? From some of the prior posts, it seems like 2 humanities are required (Literature and then either History or Geo). I.e. triple science will require 9 subjects. However alternatively can you take 3 humanities (Lit, History, Geo) and only 1 science (presumably Chem)? Or must take Chem and either Bio or Physics?
-
For 8-subject combinations, Two Sciences and Two Humanities are required for upper Sec IP.
I did not see any option for three Humanities and one Science. -
Up to
Lower Sec 2 (or Year 2) mid-year May / final year end October month HCL Paper 2 test / assessment format in SCGS,
still included the testing of
"tian xie han zi" section
(ie. fill in the blank, write out the correct HCL vocabulary stroked characters or idiom "cheng yu",
given the original han yu pin yin sound effect),
for "Lower" Secondary SCGS
both
(OP & IP) Higher Chinese students.
But,
come Year 3 HCL mid-year May month test (exam) format,
SCGS
don’t test "tian xie han zi" anymore,
because
" Upper " Sec SCGS (OP & IP) students are slanted / moving one step closer towards preparing for GCE "O-level " HCL National exam format, correct ?
OP : O-level program curriculum
IP : Integrated program curriculum
