      how do you define \"Top 20% \" ?

      Is this Top 20%

based on the entire JC1 cohort 's in their end-of-year-JC1
      \"Overall\" 4H2 results combined

      OR

      Is it
      Top 20%, within \"each individual \" H2 subject (Econs / Chemistry / Physics ),
regardless of whatever subject combination been taken ?
If you are talking about H3 Maths, you only take into consideration the H2 Maths results, period.

        Thanks a lot, qms.
        Appreciated.

        Example

        At end of JC1 exam,
        let's take individual subject
        eg. H2 Maths

Hwa Chong JC will sort out Total number, say 1200 JC1 students, sort out spreadsheet by their overall H2 Maths marks.

Those pupils falling within Top 20% of subject H2 Maths, will then be offered H3 Maths, in JC2.

Cohort size - about 20 (some years more, but generally fewer than 20)

            Distinction rate - 50%-70%

              Hi parents,

For JC1 subj combi, can H2 Arts replace Economics as contrasting subject? Can 3H21H1 subjects to be : H2 Math, H2 Physics/Chemistry, H2 Arts, H1 GP?

You need to have four content subjects. GP is not a content subject and hence should not be included in this 3H21H1.

Your 3H2 can be Physics, Maths, Econs and your H1 subject can be Chemistry. In this case, yes, you can substitute H2 Econs with H2 Arts.

However, if your 3H2 comprise of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and your 1H1 is Econs, no, you cannot substitute your H1 Econs with H2 Arts. You will be considered as taking 4H2 (with H2 Arts) in this case, not 3H21H1.

              Please see more information https://admindev.hci.edu.sg/uploads/HCI_College_Standard_Subject_Combinations_for_2021_JC_1_FINAL_a6b5dba4b1.pdf.

May I ask what is the difference between H1 Econs & H2 Econs? I heard Econs not easy to score, but wonder if H1 able to score distinction than H2? Though dd prefer H2 Arts than Econs as a contrasting subj, but heard that the timetable for certain subject combi will be off & quite unfavourable. So is it more feasible to take the more general subject combi than interest?

80% of C Maths get A but only 50-70% get A for F Maths hmmm......I am assuming those really good in Maths are allowed to take F Maths just wondering why the distinction rate is much lower. How different is it from our time (not difficult to get A).

The current standard F Maths is much higher than our times. And becoz of the requirement of one contrasting subject, very few people choose F Maths. Most courses in NUS or NTU do not require F Maths.

How about H2 third language? Where can I see the distinction rate statistics?

Typically, the Top 20% students for the subject are offered H3 for that subject.

                        how do you define \"Top 20% \" ?

It is top 20% for the subject, plus overall results must achieve MSG of 2.5 and below.
