hello all! not sure if I am interpreting correctly or not - does it mean I can move to a new place on 1 June 2021 that is <1km of the school that I want to go, and make sure that I stay 30 months after that?
as I was under the impression that the child must stay in the property for 30 months BEFORE the 30 June 2021 registration date (meaning I will have to stay in the property on or before 1 January 2019).
The rationale is probably for the child to fully benefit from the short travel distance to the school during his/her younger years. It doesn’t make sense to “reward” families who may have been living near the school for many years but move away immediately after getting into the school. -

I will like to use my mom’s address to register in 2C. MOE website states the kid must be cared for by the grandparents . But in this case doesn’t have to stay there (as in don’t have to stay overnight )? Coz we will still fetch her in the evening .
Also if the submission to use my mom’s address to register is successful , does it mean later on I can’t use my own residential address to register ? Coz we are not firmed up on which school to enrol for her . Still need to see how many vacancies left after 2B
But the declaration to use caregiver address we will like to submit earlier for approval first as I understand it may take some time . Or we can choose either caregiver or my own address during registration ?

Also in the same phase, rather than toying with which address to use, decide first then enrol.
For Marymount, 2C, keep it simple, use your own address as highly unlikely will go into ballot for SCs. -

You can just do up a statutory declaration first. In the actual registration you can use either one (if use own address, apply in P1-IS, if use mom's address, use the online form).

MOE recognises that some families are unable to remain at the address used for registration for the entire duration of the child's primary school studies. Even so, a child who gains priority admission through their distance category is required to reside at the address used for registration for at least 30 months from the start of the P1 Registration Exercise on 30 June 2021.
From MOE website. It’s 30 months from 30 June 2021.
This is not a requirement if no balloting is needed
The last sentence is only 50% true.
Say if gain admission within 1km,
And balloting occurred after 2km,
Priority is “enjoyed” although no balloting within your distance group.
Thus, must stay stay 30 months.
Example:
2021 2a1, say st nicks.
All those within 1km
And 1-2km
Already enjoyed the distance priority.
(Although balloting occurred to those outside 2km applicants) -

I tried looking for an answer to my query in the forum threads but couldn’t really find a satisfactory answer or I may have missed it.
Just wanted to know what constitutes "residing" in this case.
For example, I have got a place near the primary school that I want to register my child in and we are definitely staying here for the 30 months requirement period (and more). However, due to my spouse’s and my work requirements and arrangements, we need to stay at my in-law’s place during the weekdays and can only spend entire weekends at our registered address for the foreseeable future.
Does that constitute "residing" at my registered address?

Firstly, I checked with MOE on this recently and the answer (whether cut & paste one or not from some policy statement) was that only the child needs to reside in that address for the entire 30 months. There is nothing to oblige parents to do so.

Having said that, you may write to MOE to get some form of exemption or exception (although I think will be quite difficult if the child is not at the registered address).
My issue was both my daughters pre-school are in the East of Singapore and we are currently staying with my parents as it's nearer to the preschool. However we have an unit which is within 1KM of our preferred school and we intend stay over there for the weekends before they P1 starts and stay there every day when P1 starts.
The reply given was: \"MOE does not states the minimum number of days per week you need to stay there\" But they keep emphasizing that MOE will only say you need to reside there for 30 months from the start of P1 registration.
I don't think MOE will allow if you only stay there for weekends.
Per MOE \"The home-school distance category priority is given for the convenience and interest of the child. The family is expected to reside at the address for the duration of the child's primary school studies.\" By only staying there during the weekend is not in the spirit of MOE's intention to grant you priority. But that's my point of view only. -
Hi all, just curious. In the event of balloting within 1 km, i understand those using caregiver address(staying within 2km) will be ballot under 1-2km, So how would MOE identify and filter out those applicants who are using caregiver’s address and ensure balloting is for those truly staying within 1 km?
Quote from MOE website:
"If the caregiver’s address is within 2km of the school, your child will be balloted together with those of the same citizenship living between 1km to 2km of the school. This is regardless of how close the caregiver’s address is to the school."
