While there are definitely kids travelling 1 hour+ to various schools and doing great, the benefits of a shorter commute are real. If you fix the bed time, reducing 1 hour of commute has a very large % increase in the time available for HW, relax, etc (these kids only have a few hours after get home, eat, shower, etc).
Sorry, I can only comment on distance. IT DOESN'T MATTER. The top boy in my primary school was staying on one of the surrounding islands and has to take a boat to Singapore everyday. I suppose there's not much one can do while travelling a long distance but to read
That's hard to do when you are just walking to school. Oh well, that's just my theory.
Again, not saying it can't be done and there are differing levels of efficiency kids have on public transport. Personally, I think adequate sleep is an underrated tool for academic performance and general well-being. So at a 30 minute delta each way, I will start to think very hard about exactly what each school is offering and whether I am willing to give up something for more time. -

...Q1) does distance matters to you since to commute between home and school takes about ah hour each way , its a half ok half not ok thing when we placed it as 1st choice because both of us like this school but the distance is still a killer ? What are your thoughts ?...
Hello. Pick the nearer school, SJV2608, your child will thank you for it -

Exit F of Circle Line @ Serangoon will lead to Zhonghua Sec Sch directly in 5 mins by walking. Go for Zhonghua Sec. You will realise the time saved could have been used for more sleep, school homework and revision during exam period and long days with CCA.
Hi had called the school myself and confirmed COP is indeed at AL13. TKGS 1st choice while Zhonghua 2nd choice , my girl ( AL13) got posted to Zhonghua . Considering an appeal to TKGS but heres my dilemma would appreciate if i can get an insight from experience parents / moderators here if i should appeal , the dilemma mainly because of proximity ( we stay in Hougang area ) and holistic well-being of my girl. Personally , i have always preferred an all girls school for the obvious reason ( to weed off at least BGR issue ) hence the biggest push for appeal while the other concerns are as such :

Q2) Zhonghua was placed 2nd because of the good reputation that it has throughout the years so no issue about being a good choice to start with except its co-ed but it seems to be more geared towards a chinese culture correct me if i,m wrong ?
Q3) Prior to calling TKGS i was not sure if my child is balloted out or if this year's COP has changed hence a call to the school to confirm , so academcially she meets the appeal ( AL13 , COP 13 ) as i was informed by the admin during the call . I believe with her outgoing character she is able to deal with an all girls school so my next concern is being an only express school will this school be too stressful for her academically to undertake that she will endup struggling after all secondary school life is not the same anymore subjects and syllabus are different ?
Appreciate all comments / inputs /experienced shared ....... -
Thank you all for the your take / inputs and sharings . Understand this is on TKGS but can anybody share more on Zhonghua being more geared towards chinese culture ?
Appreciate if you have/heard any experiences from friends / family currently in this school ?
Thank you so much . -
Hi! May I find out more about the Interact Club? What kind of activities do students participate in when they join the club? Is it hard to get into this CCA?

GCE O level results were released on 12 Jan 2022.
How did TKGS fare ?
Whatโs the percentage of Distinction, across all subjects ? -
My girl is in Sec 4 this year and received her O level Chinese taken last year as she is taking HCL. She told me over 80% scored distinction for mother tongues. The only other result that she know is O level Econs where all scored A1 except 1 score B3 and yes, my gal scored A1 for Chinese.

I always think that this is an underrated Sec school. For those who received results in 2021. 90 of them scored 6 distinctions and above and their intake is only 240? And this is the batch with the lowest COP of 229 when it still base in Bedok temp holding.

so far,
what are some challenge(s) encountered, when preparing for GCE "O" level Economics paper ? -
How many Sec 3 classes are there, in TKGS ?
