Hi, anyone entered NYGH through Chinese Dance DSA ? I heard of the requirement of minimum height at 160cm, is that real? On top of that, what area the criteria?
Rumor says CCA minimum height requirement is 160cm, but not confirmed. The selection will be very competitive, and finally we gave up last year.

Think so as the school's DSA and affiliation for nyps together cannot exceed 30% of cohort, so DSA is competitive. RGS can take more through DSA up to 30% of cohort.

I am not sure abt dsa but certainly there are CD girls shorter than 1.6m. The ex chinese dance teacher who taught the school for the past 25y has retired so with this new teacher, its really hard to tell what she's looking for. The ex teacher really had very high standard such that at some years, 0 dsa spots was given out..
Hi Imp75, do you know who is the CD instructor replacing Mdm Chen?

            Hi NYGH parents,

My kid is good at Malay 3rd Lang and wants to do it in HCI as H2. But it seems HCI doesnt offer Malay as a 3rd Lang? What are our options (not open to transferring diff JC)?
Which level, are u refering to ?

            1) if you are refering to Secondary school section, from Sec 1 to Sec 4, then the answer is a clear \"No\".

NYGH Secondary school is a SAP school. One and only one Mother Tongue is allowed : Chinese.

No Malay, no Tamil, no Hindi

            2) if you are refering to Junior College A-level section, maybe different

As far as I know, the only third languages at A level H1 or H2 are French, Spanish, German and Japanese. I do not know whether there is any progression beyond MSP at sec 4. Do note that GP/KI and CL (ie n/a if you clear sec 4 hcl O level) are compulsory at A levels and cannot be replaced by another language. I do not know how your daughter can take Malay in A level given this is not her mother tongue.

Understand your kid is great at her 3rd lang Jap. What is her subject combination in Sec 3? Puzzled how to fit Malay in. Is 9 or 10 subject too heavy? She should be able to meet the requirements.
My girls took 9 inclusive of jap. Quite manageable not busy even at sec 4....I think my girls are the chill kind. 10th subject needs special approval by school cos the online subject selection portal only has 9 subjects at the max. If the msg is above 2 then only 8 subject choices are available via the portal.

At end of Year 2 streaming exercise,
how are the Year 3 classes organized? Is it

1a) all those taking Total 8 subjects form one class (X),

1b) all those taking Total 9 subjects form another class (Y),

1c) all those taking Total 10 subjects form another class (Z) ?

                  OR

1d) all those taking Total (9 or 10) subjects, are placed together into the same Year 3 class,

                  because

not so many Year 3 students are found taking Total 10 subjects, hence unable to form one class by itself ?

Not too sure but I think sorted by triple science then double science double humans etc…HP is a separate class on its own.

The girls are allowed to take different combinations of subjects.

Except for one HP class & one SIP class, the other classes are mixed with students taking 8 subjects/ 9 subjects (with different subjects)/ advance subjects/ 3rd language, etc. There is no clear differentiation like 8 subject class/ 9 subject class etc. For eg. 1 class can be made up of students doing triple science, or 2 sciences & geo/& history/& literature, advance sci.

Hi parents. Any of your DDs are taking this combi in Sec 3: triple science, geography, IH, double math, LA and HCL? Is the workload very heavy? Especially those with other commitments (advanced subjects, special programs, leadership position…), how are your DDs coping?

The school seems to discourage 9 subjects but I’m worried about giving up one science at this early age. And DD is keen to try for the other commitments.

Any experience sharing or advice will be much appreciated. Thank you!
