Hi, 十年树木百年树人, teachers (like chen laoshi) & curriculum planners have indeed put in tremendous efforts. There is a (P5) 中医药文化班, which greatly piqued my kid's interests in the different 穴位。Initially we had thought that it was just about making 驱蚊香囊。As we progress, we realise that the lessons are in fact carefully scripted, such that vocabulary is kept simple, important concepts are repeated, & at the same time teachers did not forget to frame it all in our local context, with quizzes built meaningfully. It was amazing as we explored along how 华佗/ 曹操 stories in the 中医药文化班 connect with the 杨修 passage in 核心课文。Then there is also 绘本制作![/quote]

Just read that Holy Innocent gave out an informative 23 pages booklet《圣婴小学中医药文化课程》小册 as part of their attempt to stimulate the students' interest in Chinese culture, history (with mentions about 《神农本草经》, 《本草纲目》 etc. and idiom 对症下药) and TCM.

Kudos to them for their efforts!

Talking about the influence of social media, some of the students are more familiar with the lyrics of 《热爱105°C的你》and 《孤勇者》then their academic text.

Do you know if oral is included in the O level HCL grading criteria? Ie I saw my girls O level with a grade (eg A2-F9) in HCL and another grade (Dist, merit, pass) for HCL oral. So is oral included in the calculation of the A1-F9 grading?

Hi Imp75,

Yes, for HCL, Oral component accounts for 20% of the marks.

Paper 1: 80 marks (40%)
Paper 2: 80 marks (40%)
Oral : 40 marks (20%)

The Oral grade is listed separately just to let you know how you fare. In the case of CL oral, knowing the Oral grade can help candidate determine if he/she wants to sit for the written papers again (i.e. end of year) - because Oral and LC components are one-off, no 2nd chance, unlike written papers.

Let's say candidate did really poorly for Oral, he/she might think retaking written papers may not be \"worth it\", esp. if his/her performances for these papers are usually not strong.

for CL, Oral component accounts for 25% of the marks.

Paper 1: 60 marks (30%)
Paper 2: 70 marks (35%)
Oral : 50 marks (25%)
LC: 20 marks (10%)

my friend’s Sec 4 son (aged 16) had covid, did not attend O-level Standard Chinese Oral, in July 2022.

So, his class laoshi said that they will refer back to his mid-year Chinese Oral exam grade. Friend said laoshi told her that her son will likely to get C6 for pu-hua, if he doesn’t intend to take CL Paper (1 and 2) on 8 Nov 2022, O-level exam.

Significance of school results magnified due to the Covid situation. Depending on his CL foundation, I think it's generally worth taking the papers at EOY cos the marks difference to jump grade up per grade (5 marks) isn't too wide - achievable via the written papers C6 estimation can be quite \"dangerous\" since its borderline pass.
