If he passes HCL O level exam on year 4, he can choose other languages on year 5-6
Hi parents, could you advise the benefit (if any) of taking higher Chinese if child goes into ACSI IB track at year 1?
From ACSI website:
In selecting a subject from Group 2: Language Acquisition, the student may choose:
Chinese B, English B, Malay B, Tamil B, Hindi B at Standard Level
OR
Spanish ab initio*
French ab initio*
Mandarin ab initio*
* To offer Language ab initio, students must have obtained a D7 grade or better for the GCE ‘O’ Level Higher MT exam. Otherwise they will be required to sit for the GCE ‘A’ Level H1 MT exam. -

Here are my thoughts, others can offer differing opinions. I don't think taking HCL in IP IB confers the benefit of \"dropping HCL\" in JC like the A Level track. If you can pass the HCL O Level exam, you do not need to take Chinese in JC (IB Year 11-12), but you still need to take something from the \"Language Acquisition\" category.

So, I think if really like Chinese and want to learn as much as you can, take HCL. In IB Year 11-12 I am not 100% sure what option exist to still continue with Chinese or if the student will need to take the ab initio (beginner level) foreign language for two years.
In contrast, if not really a fan of Chinese / not best subject but eligible (i.e. could pass it but will need to put in a disproportionate amount of time), I think most will recommend just stick with normal CL in secondary school. The track in IB Year 11-12 should be SL Chinese B (\"standard level\"), and supposedly this is quite manageable for most students.
Either way, I guess just let the child decide if he has a strong feeling one way or the other. -

Hello kssp, riding on SG_KP1's recommendation, you may wanna speak with the Mother Tongue department on reporting day (everyone is very helpful); explain your child's likely workload (CCAs, third language, etcetera) & they can advise you accordingly. Mother tongue periods are pulled out for all mother tongues & regardless of Higher/ Normal MT, so class allocation will Not be affected. If you drag your feet past the first week, most likely you can only switch from HMT to MT at the end of the year (if that regulation has not changed)kssp\" post_id=\"2090087\" time=\"1669336727\" user_id=\"195753:
Hi parents, could you advise the benefit (if any) of taking higher Chinese if child goes into ACSI IB track at year 1?

That analogy is for understanding of the selection process. Not so much pertaining to your query. 😊many parents have given feedbacks to your specific query already
The question is how many SC students scores 4-7 and put our dream schools as their 1st choices 🫣🫣🫣 -

Hi from Where u found out need balloting? Anyone knows if cchms need balloting at AL 11 (M) @ 1st choice?
Based on last year COP, balloting at AL6. You stand a better chance as you’re a Singaporean. All the best!
-
Anyone know if last year there was any balloting for SJI O levels at AL10? DS got AL10 and i was thinking if it was safe to put as first choice.
