Oh, that would be my 'nightmare' job! Talking all day, meeting new people, arranging stuff for them, moving around continually... Anyway, all this will help him understand himself. Even if he doesn't become a tour guide, there will be other jobs that have those elements. Like my younger girl, she's enjoying her current job because she gets to move around to visit companies, have meetings etc 2-3 times a week - not sitting at a desk all day, every day. My other girl and I shudder to think about doing a job like that!
I have the same contrast from my child. Yes it’s good for them to explore more possibilities & consider what suits their strengths & personality best.

Do you notice nowadays quite a lot of youngsters set up cafe-like eatplaces?
I went to Lola in Holland Village and Flagwhite opposite Bt Timah CC.
        The food is quite decent.
Indeed! Some seniors (in their 20s), while juggling a professional day job, have opened f&bs here & there. So my kid & classmates would help out during the long vacation. Perhaps because there was entrepreneurial exposure in school?

Speaking from my experience, I think one of the most important things that we parents can do for our kids is to help them recognise the skills they have, their personalities, etc. When they think along those lines, they will be better able to look at different jobs (some which may not even exist at the moment) and assess if they suit. While it's natural that they like to put a name on a job they like, e.g. 'tour guide', we can help them not pigeonhole themselves into looking only at a particular job. Who knows what will be available by the time your son is in his 20s and 30s.

Exposure is good for Zac. He’s probably very excited & relate well visiting the Holy Land. Gives him more exposure & he’ll not stop at just Tour Guide as work. I rmbr yons ago, Uncle Jek invited some Air Pilot dads, Police Superintendent, Lawyers, etc, as a male bonding activity at the library. Maybe shld revisit that. We did some Aeroplane & boat-making activities too.

My children don’t have aspiration (yet) I feel. But to me is we try la to do in our best way at all stages in our lives. Like when you are student then it is to study ba (told my children multiple time just hope everything will go ok eventually lor).

Whatever jobs that results may bring them to…I will just hope they will develop passion on whatever they ended up studying/ doing and be happy about it…that’s what their parents do.

I think kids are still ‘searching’… esp. when the exposure is limited…like my dd…housewife was ever her ‘job/aspiration’ … then at one point asked me if it is like this always (i think abt being monotonous if I m not wrong)…then she says she doesn’t quite like it le.

Why the kids want to become a doctor? To save life and cure patients who are suffering from illness? Even they cannot become a doctor finally because of exam results, they still can become a physical therapist, a nurse or radiation therapist, etc any jobs related to the medical industries. The most important part is : their jobs in anyway are still helping the patients.

Same for solicitors, if you want to uphold the justice, there are many jobs in judicial industries helping the victims.

We should also respect those sweep the roads because without them, our roads will be dirty.[/quote]
All good and well in an utopian society but we are living in the real world and reality bites.

I respect all jobs and I value everyone’s contributions but I am also realistic enough to know that life is very tough for the blue collar workers and lower skill workers.

So if given the choice, for a better future of my children, I (and many parents) choose to aim high so that they could have more options on how to live their lives. A solicitor who chooses to practise pro bono and not be a general counsel in a MNC has the freedom to live the life he wants while others may not even have the right to choose.

During our time..if you are about my age, we were considered 'quite' educated..bring it to today's world, we are really a very normal ones or maybe below average in terms of cert held..Not only comparing us with our next door home neighbours..you see so many 'international' level of people with 'international' level of qualifications nowadays. It may be more difficult to be at top level in a corporation for our future gen I feel but I may be wrong..personally I am at the pro side for parents to aim for our children to be better than us.. can push to max potential just push lor.. if cannot then it is fine too..we just need 1 job to feed us and family 😄

Might be 0.25. Best expected is a 0.5 increase. If 0.75 then stock mkt will shoot thro the roof. Don’t think FED will let that happen.
As little increase as possible..those with loan praying for it..today's sora rate is 1.6x.. maybe tomorrow will go up..it will be good if we could analyse it haha..

Inflation in both Europe & the US maybe going downwards, but every country’s economic situation is different. Also, our govt also need to balance local fiscal needs. Hope US companies will slow down in retrenching staff here & relieve price pressures do food supplies, commodities & daily necessities. Housing pressures is ano inflation indicator, which is less difficult to manage if our economy need more foreign talents with housing needs & theres hot money fr regional investors.
