      Question:

Is there really a majority demand for this pri-sec TT that we are discussing? :scratchhead:

So far I don't get the vibes that it is a majority demand...because mainstream is being used meaning those who demanded are viewed as non mainstream? If it is not a MAJORITY demand, it would create a class divide again for the kids who eventually opt for a 10-year to national exam path. I mean, if MOE is trying so hard to demolish the Express, NA and NT walls with a more nebulous SBB approach now, why build a new wall? :scratchhead: 😂

As for the pressure of scrapping PSLE? Who is giving the pressure? :scratchhead:
What I feel is perhaps the name PSLE has run its full course....the name can be changed to PSCE (Primary School Completion Exam) marking a milestone completed. The word \"Leaving\" seems to suggest it could be no more furtherment in education but in reality, this is no longer true. I think we have made significant progress in our lives here that nobody or super rarely anyone stops education at PSLE certificate at all.

When people think about affiliation, they think about ACS MGS and all that fancy branded secondary school. (that is good sense to me too)

Try offering affiliation to some neighborhood secondary school with AL22 COP for express (similar to ACS), I am sure there will be few takers.

If so, why don't we just stick with affiliation school instead of calling it TT? Is AL22 COP not good enough?
        You are right, Veyron.

\"Through Train\", this concept, is already in existence. It is not something brand new. Hence, NO need to re-invent the wheel.

        AFFLIATION is already Through Train.

        Affliation = Through Train

        From P1 to Sec 4,
        for ten long years,

        Primary school students from affliated
(Buddhists, Presbyterian, Methodist, Catholic) schools can go back to study in their Secondary schools, for O level.

        Assuming that
a child does not have any learning disability, ACS affliated cut off score at AL22 - every P6 pupil should have no problem with this. Unless, you are saying that the child NEVER bother to study, never bother to prepare PSLE, at all.

However, as Secondary schools (SCGS + MGS) also offer IP curriculum, MOE ought to set their affliation score for O level to

        AL 14,

not let it remain at AL 17, so low.

        On the other hand,
if parents of (SCGS + MGS) schools or any affliated primary school not interested in going back to their respective affliated Sec school,
        but
only want their kid to go Raffles Girls Sec / Nanyang Girls High,
        that is,

To opt out of their readily available Through Train track affliation Secondary schools (SCGS + MGS),

then by all means, enrol (register) their daughters in P6 Term 1 (March), to
        sit for PSLE.

        After all,
        every year,

whenever one look at any DSA thread (20xx), u can find more than 60% of questions posed inside the DSA thread, often involved many parents keep asking about DSA related to ( R* and H* ) family.
        Eg.

DSA questions pertaining how to get into these two IP high profile schools, dominate the entire DSA thread discussion, every batch, each year. When u read the DSA thread, it appears as if the whole of Singapore only got these two schools, nothing else. Go, can check it out to confirm.

        Therefore,
one cannot simply ask MOE to abolish PSLE. PSLE will still have to remain !
Of course, P6 students need to have a check point,

        1) to know exactly where they stand amongst their own primary school cohort.

        2) to know exactly where they stand, at National level.

From ACS AL COP, what we can see is that literary all ACS students with AL4 to AL6 left ACS for ACS (I) IP and other IPs schools. This means even within branded "TT" schools there will be students who wish to transfer out.

So instead of wasting time hoping for a happy ever after TT school system, we should just have an opt-out option for all mainstream students to skip PSLE if they wish. (caveat applies)

ACS AL22 COP is indeed too low in comparison to SJI affiliation COP AL12.

So bottom line is, PSLE is still important in our education system.

            For your information -
there is a pattern, been traced (observed) .

            Every year, every P6 batch,

Inside those Top two classes at P6 level,

in affliated primary schools (SCGS, St Nick, MGS), a number of students from these classes, are not interested in going back to their readily available, affliated \" Through-train \" Secondary schools, for O-level.
They can easily go back to their respective Sec schools, at affliation Cut off point at AL 17, or AL (14 for St Nick). But, a number of them, from these classes, are simply not keen.

            Instead,
so many of them had applied for DSA, into (RGS / NYGH).
If they tried DSA but cannot enter, then they hoped that they can enter by PSLE (T-score / AL score). So, definitely, PSLE has to remain !

Try telling parents who are targeting their kid for (RI + Hwa Chong / RGS + NYGH ) to abolish PSLE & see what kind of reaction to face.

            =============================

            In stark contrast,
those students not from the Top two P6 classes -

they don't mind going back to their readily available affliated Secondary schools for O level, at AL 17 or AL 14.

              The same,

goes for St Margaret primary school girls.

Those P6 students from the Top 2 classes inside St Margaret, many of them show no interest to go back to their readily available, affliated "Through Train" St Margaret Secondary.

              Every year,
              so many of them,
from these Top two classes are eyeing either Raffles Girls Secondary or eyeing National Junior College, or some other IP-JC.

The same thing, also apply to
CHIJ Toa Payoh primary school, Top two P6 classes. Some of them also dis-interested to go back to their affliated Sec school. Don’t mention about IP schools. Even for Secondary O-level, some of them are just "dying" to get out, exit from St Margaret Sec. Is just that their PSLE T score neither here nor there, dangling in mid air, can’t go to some other Secondary school. Bo bian, got to stay back within St Margaret Sec.

Why talk about "Through train", when some of these young P6 students themselves, don’t even want it ?

                  Exactly !

Without a common barometer National exam (PSLE) present,

and some of these students themselves from the Top P6 classes already dis-interested to go back to their readily available affliated Secondary schools,

how to measure several thousands of students to compete at National level,
                  to decide say,

                  whether this particular P6 boy,
out of several thousands of candidates present,
can or cannot enter RI ?
Of course, we still need the PSLE !

Were those boys in this \"school\" still had to achieve a AL 22 or below (affiliated) in PSLE in order to enrol into the Express stream of the same school? It is not a 100% \"through train\" for all boys in this school.[/quote]
Why should we limit ourselves and only look at express? A truly through-train school should cater to many different abilities - to bring out the best in each and every student while keeping a place even for the late-bloomers. As long as the student gets AL28 and below, they will get to stay on in the ACS family, and work their way up from G1 to G2 and G3 when the student is ready. Maybe we should have more schools like that. 😂

IF parents can get past the labels that comes with being an IP or G1/2/3 student, any kind of sorting (eg psle) is merely used to help place the students in a group/school which is appropriate for their ability. There shouldn’t be any stress if parents can see it that way. :siam:

LNW’s point was that due to the MOE’s reservation of 20% for non-affiliates, ACS no longer has free reign to accept back all 100% of its affiliates. MOE is never going to U-turn on this rule.

There was some stress falling on the ACS boys who scored AL21-22 as there was a risk of them being kicked out (not enough seats left for them).

U can’t call it fully thru train therefore.

                        AL22 COP for express
                        NA COP is AL24
                        NT COP is AL28

So its still TT in some way, just need to take PSLE
