I have no idea what I dreamt last night but this morning I woke up with a question in Chinese in my head...
\"先苦后甜” 或 “先甜后苦“
Somehow immediately I thought of PSLE....

Neither you nor me have a time machine. Whether you tell straight (line) or quadratic (line) doesn't matter.
Nah !
Singapore is very kiasu, wan !
Just look at the number of kiasu people around.
I can tell you straight :-
PSLE will always be here, to stay

As per link, ACS(I) O-level cohort size is 215, and 80% of 215 is 172 students.
The link that you have provided (“ACSI publishing their O level result”) does not in fact publish the percentage of students who qualified for their affiliated JC (ACJC) with a nett L1R5 score of 9 (raw score of 9+4 = 13). That info is not available.
The cohort size for ACSBr is 8 classes of ~40 = 320. The assumption that ~80% are from ACS schools is correct.
However, the assumption that ~80% of ACSI’s O level cohort are from ACS schools is incorrect. The cap is not anywhere near maxed out. I estimate less than 50% of the 510 cohort met the AL13 COP.
It depends on how one defines “benefitted from affiliation”. If I define it as qualifying for entry to either one of the 2 ACS secondary schools, it is probably close to 99.9%.[/quote]
172 is actually <50% of 510.
To me benefiting from affiliation means, PSLE result offer very limited school choices but get accepted in good school.
Suppose this is not ACS we are talking about, but some neighborhood schools. Do you think those who scored between AL7-A13 will remain in the secondary school or will they consider other schools? -

We don't need a time machine to confirm that PSLE is here to stay.
Certain things in life -
is here to stay
We just know it, deep inside us ! -

Dear Sir/ Madam,
Perhaps you should make yourself clearer in what you wrote
From your original statement, you specifically mentioned,
1) Non-Psle student, which means your suggested program is targeted at that student who skipped PSLE.
2) \"which has S1 to S6\"
When you mentioned S1 to S6, this is very misleading because it is like P1 to P6, a 6 years continuous program.
As far as I know, there is no such thing as secondary 6 in Singapore, so what do \"S5\" and \"S6\" mean?
If it's a separate JC program as you claim now, why can you just call it JC1 and JC2, e.g S1-S4 + JC-JC2 instead of S1-S6
3) \"both O level and A level exam in the same school\"
What is the attractiveness of having Sec and JC in the same school if Sec and JC are separate (need O-level for admission to JC) and not through train like IP (even though most IP schools have a separate campus for JC)
And then you make another post mentioning that its only fair to ask them (non PSLE student) to take two exams.
Doesn't it contradict your statement that A-level is guaranteed?
So what exactly are you proposing that is so unique and attractive?
Enrollment is 50% balloting, 50% P5 school-based exam result,
No affiliation between primary and S1-6 school
S1-S6 is not through train
Secondary to JC is not guaranteed needs O-Level
I never said 50% balloting and 50% P5 exam.
I said, you must be in top 50% of your school then you become eligible. Once you are eligible, it will go to balloting if there are more applications. If you are not successful in balloting, you have several months to prepare for PSLE.

Avenue3,
...
Have fun writing your essays without reading fully and understanding.
Many of us here have noticed that u cannot not even offer any proposal in clear perspective of what Through Train programme u are talking about.
And then when people ask u to clarify your stand clearly, what exactly do u mean by your \"S1 to S6\" path, you are so vague and evasive !
And because u are SO EVASIVE, can't even define clearly to all of us here in this forum what u actually talking about,
all you know is to always keep firing us back here, shout back at us with this phrase,
\"have fun writing your essays without reading fully and understanding. \"
Actually,
If u got nothing worthwhile to offer, then just take a step back and don't say anything more.
We people here, in this forum, are not dumb. We all can check back all the past pages here, read exactly what u had written, word by word. We only keep hearing u yelling out aloud \"Remove PSLE\". But other than this, only to realise that u din even propose anything substantial
OR
At least make us able to see clearly,
\"Oh ! I see. So this is where u are coming from. Now, I can understand what alternative u are actually proposing, in place of PSLE ... \"
No.
We don't see this, coming from you at all. No clear, well defined alternative, whatsoever. Instead, only vagueness !
You just keep going round and round in circle, keep on barking aloud \"Remove PSLE\" (keep repeating). That's all, we hearing, from you -

Perhaps you can share with us what are the USPs and what positive outcome can we get from such balloting based non-Psle, S1-S6 system with O and A level taken in the same secondary school but progress from sec to JC is not guaranteed

b.) Yes, different schools have different standards, but they are ALL Good. In the end it is balloting. Coz, this new Secondary School may have 500 places and 5000 may apply. Balloting removes the concept of unfairness. And when 50% or AL 16 (which is roughly about average) are eligible, that is a broad spectrum already. If someone wants to complain that they are from high standard primary school and in bottom 50% , too bad for them.....they should not have selected such a high standard school to begin with. -

Yes everyone can read back and check.
If someone don't read and understand and repeatedly attribute things to me that I haven't said, I need not accept. There is pattern here on twisting and adding different things / meanings and taking the topic tangential....walk in circles basically. So. Have fun. -
Avenue3\" post_id=\"2103086\" time=\"1679976509\" user_id=\"45412:
Do you mean that using the school exams, the top 50% of each school will have a chance to choose their secondary schools first as thru-train from S1-S6 but will be subjected to balloting if the school is oversubscribed? Then the lower 50% will take the PSLE exam and then select their school choices? Did I understand you rightly?

As mentioned,
if u got nothing concrete nor substantial to counter offer years of decade PSLE rooted implementation In Singapore,
then don't mind, can u do us a favor ? That is,
can u pls take a back seat, keep quiet,
And
let others a chance to come forward and make their stand, clearly ?
Otherwise, Avenue3, u are just simply wasting everybody's time here, going round & round in circle, barking and yelping, but useless. Sorry we have to tell you this.
=========================
To All of u out here,
if anyone got any worthy / worthwhile proposal to counter offer,
then as a reader,
this is what I would like to see, to read.
Clear communication, require skills.
To have a clear communication, with your audience out here, in order to build rapport with your audience,
can u
help to breakdown into following clear communication category ?
1) problem definition
highlight or explain to to all of us here, very clearly, what are the underlying problems with current PSLE ?
State your problem(s) clearly, one by one, so that everyone here can understand.
2) State your proposal, clearly.
propose your so called defined Secondary school solution, Through Train programme?
How does your suggestion, actually going to take place ?
What then,
are the criteria needed to fulfill, this Through Train programme, without having to sit for PSLE ?
State these criteria out clearly, one by one, so that everyone can follow, can understand.
3) benefits
What benefits, tangible or intangible,
can one reap,
if we were to adopt your strategy, or if MOE also see where u are coming from, were to adopt your strategy, one day in future ?
Thank you, everyone, for your precious, valuable time.
