My kid has Queen's commonwealth silver plus some other math olympiad but did not apply for english DSA or any academic DSA coz no interest in it. And I don't think my kid can get accepted because the number of students accepted is low. So only apply if you are really interested in it. The commitment in secondary school is not really difficult though.Zeal mummy\" post_id=\"2104965\" time=\"1681209227\" user_id=\"58173:[quote=\"Zeal mummy\" post_id=2104965 time=1681209227 user_id=58173]Congratulations on your awards! It is highly competitive as there are many applicants, so do put your best foot in (DSA- you will have 10 slots to enter your relevant accomplishments and to show that you’re an all round!) and hope for the best! Good luck!

The students that got in through English DSA would usually plan activities for the English department. Eg. Essay competitions, English fiesta. Yes, every year more applicants than available places. So it’s highly competitive. It will be good to show that you are genuinely passionate about the language by having a variety of engagement that uses the language.

Hi, to DSA for SAP IP school for sports. It is required to Take HCL in Year 1.
1) Will they also see the Chinese results in P5 , P6? Usually AL4 for Chinese, overall AL 9-10. Will this be a factor of not even getting chosen for round 1?
Also have checked on his report book there are some items that are stated for P5:
1) Vice captain P5
2) Won 1st place(Tier 1) in P5 NSG
3) Class Monitor / ICT Monitor
However have checked his report book, there are some items that he have participated but did not indicate on the report book, since it is not stated on report book, shld we invoice this in the 10 boxes provided?
1) Edusave scholarship/bursary/eagles awards P2-P5
2) Value award given by school with cert in P5
3) Attended E2K Maths and Science in P5
4) Participated in MO/SO in P5 (Raffles/NUS) (Only particiation cert)
5) Participated Sony Creative in P5 (Only particiation cert)
Currently for P6 , also not stated in report book yet since have not taken back
1) Peer support leader for P6
2) Vice Captain for Sport P6
Also thinking if should include:
1)Taekwondo red belt - but he have stopped in 2018 (thinking if its still relevant?)
2)Swimming Stage 2
Thank you in advance. -

Mum of DSA sports boy to SAP school here.
He didn't take Higher Chinese in P5-6. Managed to make it to trial, interview and waitlist. In the end converted (thanks to our lucky stars).
Yes I think they do look at P5-6 Chinese results. He was usually in the high 70s - low 80s.
As for achievements, I think for sports they mainly want to see sports achievements and sporting potential. Try to fill up as many as you can before adding the others. I put in his non-sports achievements eg Math Olympiad Bronze but it didn't seem to matter to them 😉
Your son's credentials seem pretty impressive already.
All the best! -
Anyone can help advise how to build a portfolio for DSA via innovation?
Thanks! -

My daughter got in to RVHS via DSA sports. Basically I feel that your son's academic result is more than sufficient to get in via DSA. It depends more on his sports performance and potential.

In short, like others have said, trial performance and interview are more important for sports DSA. Previous achievements in sports will only determine whether he gets a trial.
If he get pass the trial stage, during interview they will check on things like attitude and how they handle pressure. They even ask students to do a group presentation.
According to my daughter, some of her peers who received sports DSA CO, got a range of AL8 to 15 in their final PSLE result and some without HCL. So I think academic achievement is really less important for the school but nevertheless important for parents as we want them to cope academically as well. -

Building a portfolio for DSA via innovation is mainly to get your child to work on some innovative projects and document them. Look at the article link to get more ideas on the https://www.testpapersfree.com/view.php?id=89594.
Anyone can help advise how to build a portfolio for DSA via innovation?

This is such a good list. Thanks so much!

Hi
hello, I’m a student(non-GEP) and I’m thinking of participating in EL DSA to RGS this year. I have won a couple of awards(wits and words best speaker, wits and words certificate of participation) and I have gotten AL1s or AL2s (not often) for EL, and most recently, single-digit AL for WA1 (6). I think I may also participate in the Queen’s commonwealth essay competition (if I have time). However, I have also participated in sota cw competition and cwp but I never get selected for both Programmes. Also Wits and Words which is a debate competition organized by RGS. Am I able to get a DSA offer to RGS? thanks
My DD DSA to RGS via English . Just sharing her profile here for you to assess your own chances ……. She got a silver award in queens commonwealth in p5. And AL1 for English consistently . Overall is consistently AL5 . That’s about it .
She did her psle during the covid in 2021 so I’m not sure how the selection criteria is now - do read thru 2022 thread to see how it was done .
Once you get past the interview , everyone is on a level playing ground . Hence I always emphasise the performance during the interview itself . I think pre-covidal years , it was a half day workshop with various activities whereby the teacher just sit aside to observe . Then during covid years , it was changed to zoom group interview .
There’re not many commitments required of these EL DSA girls in RGS . Maybe just submit an essay for competition once a year .
FYI the school’s DSA selection criteria is based up to jun . I would think that the release of results of 2023 queens commonwealth competition wouldn’t be in time . -
