From 2026 onwards, UAS computation will max at 70. So how does this change translate to 4th subj in A levels? Any adv to take it in H2 over H1?
Students in top JCs will still be taking 4 H2?

As far as I am aware, there is no prerequisite requirement to have done upper Sec Literature or History, to read the corresponding subjects at H2 level. Subjects like China Studies in English, also do not have a prerequisite. Neither does Computing, though some schools administer an entry test. I am not sure about Geog - do check with the JC involved? I would be surprised if upper Secondary Geog is a prerequisite. To do Geog at NUS has no prerequisites at all, not even secondary school Geog.

Done a back of the envelope calculation before , to gauge under what scenario the 4th subject can improve the RP score. It’s when the 4th subject grade is better than the averages of the 3 compulsory subjects. If it’s a BBB, an A in 4th subject will improve the RP. a B or less will not improve the RP. If ABB, a B in 4th subject will not improve RP. An A will improve RP.

It depends on the student. Some will choose to take the minimum so they have more time for each subject (or to have time for other things besides studying). Some will choose to take more simply because they are enthusiastic about learning, and are fairly confident they can manage it. Some will prefer to have a 4th subject, just in case!

There are students who take H3 as well, just because they want to, even if it doesn't really help them get into university. -

We thought so too. But come to think of it, there were discussions previously abt sch only offered combined sci as kid may not qualify pure sci, so the same may apply to pure humanities vs elective. Or it could be different for humanities?

Unlikely my kid will change her mind, still proceed with triple sci with only one SS+elect human.
For those kids who get 6 - 4, and get into RI or HCI, if sch only offer h2 subjects, don't think students have the choice? Not sure how it will work. -

Just go into individual JC website, to check
Eg.
1)
To take H2 Literature, some strict JCs impose a minimum score of at least a \"B3\" in your English (O level. Otherwise, u can't take A level Literature.
2) not everyone can take 4 H2 subjects in JC1, just because they desire to. Depend on what is your original O level L1R5 raw score / nett score.
In some JCs, they are strict.
If your original L1R5 score did not meet a certain criteria,
then,
u are allowed to take only 3 H2 but not 4 H2 subjects, in your JC1 first year. Go read the pre-requistes, inside the individual Junior College website.
3) you asked, can u still do / continue with 4H2 subjects, in JC2 ?
That depends!
They will look at your end of year JC1 results. If they think u can't cope, some strict JCs will request that u drop to taking 3 H2 subjects in JC2, even though u did take 4H2 subjects in JC1, first year.
4) for certain subjects like Computer Science (JC1), for instance, JCs will ask u to take diagnostic tests first.
If u fail their entrance test,
then
cannot take Computer Science.
Another subject behaving like this include Further Maths (A-level) diagnostic test, in certain JCs.
