yup, if your maid can say that, she's (in my eyes) a good maid. One who knows what she is here for and strives towards that goal (legally of course) is one whom I respect. I simply cannot understand those who pay so much money to come here but yet don't seem to want to work. haizzzz.My maid was very angry with that neighbour's maid. I told my maid very frankly that she's lucky I was home that day else I will start doubting her as well. I am aware that she has been chatting a lot with that maid at our driveway. I am ok with that as she still gets her work done. My maid started ranting about how she doesn't understand the mentality of some of these maids, said they paid a lot to get out here to work and instead of making sure they earn what they need to feed their family, they start doing nonsense.
I just told her I am glad she has her priorities right. And this incident goes to show how important it is that she be open with me about who she befriends and who she is out with on her off days. -

Yes, I let my maid go home to Indonesia every year during my 2 weeks compulsory leave. Because she has a daughter there now about 5 years old just going K2! She came here to work to support her daughter because her husband not helping her at all hence because of this, I am quite sure she will come back. Well, this is already her 3rd year with me and 3rd time going home, so far she always came back!
Even after her 1st year when she went back home, I somehow have no doubt she will come back. If she doesn't come back how? Well, actually I take it very easy because who is the one losing? Her right? Can't be me because I just take another maid lor!
I remembered the first year when I went back to the maid agency to book the air-ticket and passport chop etc. for her leave, the maid agency asked me why I let her go back after one year? She said the maids won't want to come back after such long leave. Also why I allow her to go back for 2 weeks instead of just a few days? Also she advised me to make sure I keep her POSB account with at least SGD500 to ensure she will come back.
My answer is, to buy the ticket is so expensive so of course she should stay as long as possible there lah. Also go back once a year only so should stay longer. I wish I can give her one month (which is not uncommon with my neighbours' maids) but I can't max. only 2 weeks.
Anyway, my this maid is sensible. Other type of maids, I cannot say.

AN INDONESIAN maid who stole from her employer’s mother-in-law twice and blamed the ex-maid was jailed for 10 months on Monday.
On May 27, Desi Kurnia Dewi, 23, was found unconscious in the flat with two wooden chairs on top of her by her employer’s mother-in-law, Madam Chan Har Mooi, 68.
The maid, who had earlier stolen foreign currencies and jewellery from the victim, claimed that she was assaulted by ex-maid Siti Mariah before she lost consciousness.
Siti Mariah was arrested and remanded for two weeks.
Further investigation showed that she staged the robbery after forcing open the drawer to steal valuables. She caused some bruises to her arms and pretended to have passed out.
On June 11, she handed $500 to Madam Chan and asked her to buy an air ticket for her to go home, claiming her family members had sent her the money.
Suspicious, Madam Chan checked and found $2,888 missing from a red box in a drawer. In her statement to the police, she again alleged that Siti Mariah had instigated her to steal.
Desi could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined for theft as a servant. For giving false information to the police, she could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined up to $5,000.
This maid was my colleague ex-maid, she send her back last year. The maid hands are not "clean, my colleague’s sons’ peggy bank coins always missing and her FIL’s money was stolen too…
The maid is smart, she went back change her name and got herself new passport and return to Singapore… :x -
this afternoon i was at shell petrol station. while i was queuing to make payment for petrol, in front of me there was this fil maid with a after school 7-8 yrs old boy. she turned back and looked at me once and i could feel the way she looked at me was a bit strange. then when it was her turn to make payment, she bought a $15 hand phone top up card. that was usual but the unusual thing was she paid this $15 all in small coins: all 10 or 20 cents coins, there was no single 50 cents or 1 dollar coin. it was large amount of coins and it took long time for the cashier to count. i think most likely she stole coins from the boy’s pocket money.
hope one day she got caught and sent back home or police. -
I may actually need to hire a maid to help with chores as I am preparing to spend more time with kids when dd goes to P1 next year. Any good recommendation for decent maids or agency?
I would appreciate if someone can introduce their good maids whose contracts expired and employer do not want to renew because of kids growing up, etc…

a friend’s mum wanted to send maid away after 1+ year of service and on day of departure, they went through her stuff. Found phone card with hundreds of dollars inside, wallet stuffed with foreign currencies. Turns out she’s been cleaning the house in more ways than one. But they didn’t report to police and just sent her back.
And another where a friend took in a maid where the old person she was taking care of died, after some months of poor attitude etc, they decided to send her back. and it was only checking through her stuff that they realised the maid was moonlighting as a pros. haiizzz
