we got a second hand Yamaha U2 10 years ago - fully Japan made (in those years it was 100% Japanese made) and the sound is very very good till these days and it has been trouble free

      I didn't know yammie got a U2. I thought it's only U1, U3 & YU5.

they do not make U2 any more. mine was of \"low mileage\" .... still quite new when we bought it....and it has been 10 years with us ... still good... that few thousand$$ was worth it

      U1 is 48 in

      U2 is 50 in

      U3 is 52 in

I read in http://www.pianoworld.com that because the action of a grand piano is gravity based, the touch will always be superior (meaning can play faster and better control) to an upright cos upright actions are always vertically based. But I guess you need to reach a certain level of expertise to tell the difference. I could never tell the diff 👅

But in terms of tone (more oomph), was told that top range uprights will beat an average baby grand. But personally I feel that it's more fun and inspiring to play on a grand. My apt has no space to house a grand, otherwise I'll surely get one. So if you have the space, why not.

If you want to get a grand, don’t get baby ones, they’re not worth the money (and the space), get an upright grand instead (eg Yamaha U5). Grand must be the proper 5ft at least

Cristofori is NOT a good brand…my opinion.
