I need some advice. We stay within zone 1 of Maris Stella High and we are wondering if it is neccesary to register for parents volunteer? Our son is born in 2006, registration in 2 years time...

Any parents volunteer in Maris Stella High care to share their volunteering experience?

Maris Stella has required balloting in Phase 2C in the last 4 years, although all those staying within 1km has escaped the need for balloting in any Phase. If you like these odds, you can forego the PV. However, to be really sure, it is always a good idea to do PV not only to get a chance in Phase 2B, but also to get to know the school and staff better.

I did think of Marymount too, but couldn't figure out why enrollment has dipped so much in recent years. :?

The numbers may have dipped because they no longer have a secondary section. But I also do not about the general standard of the school, ie, teaching staff, PSLE results, CCAs, of Marymount as compared to IJ Toa Payoh. Can any existing parents advise? Thanks.

Any parents out there considering between St. Joseph Institution Junior (SJIJ) and Maris Stella (MS)?

Can some kind souls please share your experience or any news/ views between these 2 schools. I am hearing very mixed reviews about both schools (both good and bad) and I need to make a decision SOON since getting into Catholic High is a super long shot with 9 places left for Phase 2B

MS => SAP School? (Yes)

SJIJ => SAP School? (No?)

Mixed, confused parent ....

My son is in MS so can offer a little insight into MS.

MS is a SAP School but English is the primary spoken language there among the boys. It is very unSAP in that sense. One feels as if you are in an all-boys English school when you walk among the boys. School offers bi-lingual/bi-cultural environment with alternative weeks as English Week/ Chinese Week.

SJIJ is not SAP.

Perhaps other parents have more insight to share on the above schools to help toyalusd.

I understand your dilemma. I am wondering about the same myself.

MS: good primary school but its secondary school is not good. Pri is a SAP school but my son is not SAP material. If my son cannot make it to a better secondary school and end up in MS (Sec), it will not be good for him.

SJI Jnr: mediocre primary school but its secondary school is much better that MS (Sec). Its non Higher Chinese may be a blessing in disguise for my son. If my son cannot make it to a better secondary school and end up in SJI, it may have been a good thing.

To me, Maris Stella or SJIJ, both are Catholic School. I think they should be equally good. I am more towards MS because of the SAP school status. I personally feel Chinese is very important. Also, I can imagine how difficult it is for me to drive to SJIJ in the morning peak hour. From there, I need to travel all the way to Jurong to work. That is the deciding factor for me right now.

These three schools are not located very near each other, plus 2 of your choices are rather popular schools. Perhaps you should first consider which is the one that is nearest to you, i.e. within 1km from your residence.
