regular flow ? :?tingting2424:
Hmm..z..z...z.. Must be a male..
:faint: Probably...
PM said the new waterfront will be the focus of Singapore's economic growth woh.
Callling ksi, any sublime msg in this design?

No lah
I was interested to find out how the Marina Barrage is used for flood control.
The Marine Barrage acts like a dam.
It serves two purposes: to retain the water in the reservoir behind it and alleviates flood in the city area.
Prior to the commissioning of this Barrage in end 2008, no flooding has occurred in Orchard Rd area in recent memory.
When it happened on 16th June, the Minister said it was a freak occurrence - first time in 50 years.
Within one month, three floods, for various reasons given, have occurred in places where they don't normally occur.
PUB has mentioned upper and lower limits to trigger the opening of the crestgates or starting of the pumps.
What are these limits?
If the primary function is to store water, I presumed the trigger point will be at higher limits.
The crestgates take 20 minutes to be fully open; pumps of the size installed at the Barrage don't start up and run to full capacity instantaneously.
What if the engineer on watch has been slow to initiate?
Orchard Road is 4 - 5 m above sea level and the drainage system is designed to flow down towards the Marina Bay.
For it to flood means that the water is not draining into the Bay and out into the sea fast enough.
The parameters on drainage system and trigger points for Marina Barrage have to be relooked.
just my 2cents.
Good analysis.
I wonder with more plans for all the underground shopping in that area, extended underground new mrt lines, is this just the tip of the iceberg? -

well, ION used to be a big field. Perhaps rain used to seep thru the ground and become part of the underground water network. Now that itβs all constructed over, rain can only flow into the nearby drains and overwhelming themβ¦credible explanation?

Actually, as per Way2go's analysis, I wonder if Singapore's water table has been raised such that more than usual rain will cause a flood?
With the network of MRT tunnels too - are they somehow obstructing the previous pattern of water drainage?
Anyway, seems like there is a mad dash of drainage working going on across the island. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place (stole this from Markfch from his cramped leg thread but it works here :)) - this rainy season is probably a really bad time to do works, but what choice do they have? -
Just a thought:
If 3 mil FTs, having been forewarned to expect flooding
everytime there are heavy rains,
panic and pee in their pants
when there is a sudden heavy downpour -
and each say pee 0.5 litres and say only 70% of these flow into
Marina Bay and Kallang Basin,
that's 1,050,000 litres of pee in an instant,
will it cause flooding? if the

Hi Blobbi :celebrate:
It's not that rainstorms of these intensities are not unseen in Singapore before;
To say it's a freak occurrence once in 50 years to explain it away if it happens once in a long while is plausible,
but more than once within one month? :?
There's more to it, don't you think?
