I guess it depends on where you want to go visiting. Historic sites and night mkts did not appeal to my boy  He likes the Leofoo theme park, the Salt City ATV ride and the hotel stay at the hot springs resort.
Are you going with children? -

i suggest tour with Flying Cow Leisure Farm. Children will enjoy a lot at the farm, especially the feeding times. However be prepared that the sightings in package tour will be touch and go. -

I had a good laugh at the fengshui and pixiu shop which the tour guide brought us to.Augmum:

The fengshui lady presenting, claimed their grand master is Zhuge Liang. She described Liu Bei, with the help of Zhuge Liang defeated Zhou Yu , advisor to Cao Cao and established the Han Dynasty.
Unfortunately i cannot share the joke with my family and other tour members. I guess most of them have not read the romance of 3 kingdoms, or have watched the Chi Bi movies.

I'm going with my hubby and two boys. One 12 and the other 8. They boys don't like Taiwan but bcos we have never been there, and my parents wish to go too, I intend to convince the boys. I guess they won't like the historic sites too. Really big head, with kids and old ones going, really don't know what to do?? -

Agreed that the historic sites are touch and go type.S-H:

Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiang_Kai-shek_Memorial_Hall
We did not go inside the hall, tour guide claimed an hour is needed but we only had 30 mins. So only got to see how huge the place is.
Martyr's Shrine http://eng.taiwan.net.tw/m1.aspx?sNo=0002090&id=1795
So crowded during the guard changing times. My boy too short to see anything.
National Palace Museum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Palace_Museum
Very huge place, very crowded too. There is a children hands-on room at level 1. Not too sure if an adult must be with the child. Many interesting delicate ancient handicraft. Must hv patience in going around to look at them.
These places are found in std tour packages.
I think it is better to contact a local tour agency, then to customise a package for the family. Can be more relaxed as can omit places that are not so suitable. -
